My last concert?

Well I hate to say it but last years Nissan show might just be the last show I will attend. (Even while I sit here listening to 31's replay from Virginia Beach). That was show 12? in 16 years! It's been a good run!
My New baby, a "much rather be at the beach" attitude, and a strong unwillingness to pay $120+ for a seat, are just a few reasons to stay away this year.
Last year was a great show, and I'll miss about 20% of you from the parking lot - ok maybe 40% of you. Maybe if you have extra tickets and a baby sitter you can talk me out of it, but until then, or the next time I meet Bubba on a beach somewhere with a guitar in our hands, that was my last live performance!

Sorry to hear that, but I can't afford to "pay thru the nose" either. With the cost of college ( there's a song in there somewhere) Not working. My savings will be going to a better place along with my Daughter. I plan to have a party on June 10th. at least there will be a shorter line to the bathroom.

These are exactly the kind of responses that get under my skin. I didn't see anything derogatory in the post other than the person simply thought it was too much to pay for a ticket. So now someone is less of a fan because ticket prices have gotten so high? What a load of BS.

You should have seen the look of shock on my wife's face when I gave her the "Irvine could be my last Buffett concert" speech a couple of months ago.

Yes - I can afford $120+ tickets...but, do I want too?
Yes - I love the experience and the friends I have made along the way...but, I know where to find most of you!

More tickets for you? I have never missed a show because I couldn't get a ticket! I have seen Jimmy on all three coasts, from the lawn, and from so close my drinks were setting on the stage. Where there is a will, there is usually a way to get there!

For me, it seems to be more a matter of diminishing returns on my investment. Perhaps I am just weary of a setlist in which 80% of the songs have been there for a couple of decades (or more)? You can only add "missing lyrics", re-mix, and add a reggae beat so many times. To me, the concert itself always seems to be the anti-climatic ending to the whole pre-party, tailgating, concert experience.

I too have the "daughter off to college" expenses on the summer horizon. But, I really think I want to experience more of the regional Parrothead events in lieu of concerts.

However, perhaps Jimmy can change my mind in Irvine~!

Who do you think you are telling BCDurbin that nobody cares that last year was his final show. I applaud the man for putting priorities first like their new child. Let me give you a little advise about the way you acknowledge others in this message board forum. We are all friends in here and to be honest we don't need jerks like you speaking for the rest of us. Maybe when you have a little more posts to your name you can make a blanket statement, but until then learn to keep your mouth shut and respect others for making the responsible decision.

For the price of going to a show one couple decided to go to FL and listen to the show on SIRIUS while sitting on the beach.

Lets face it....there will come a point where the crowd is going to be a Springsteen/Stones type of crowd. Everyone will go to the concert in their Beemers and Jags and biatch if you stand up during the show b/c they paid so much to sit in the seats.

Obviously there are quite a few people here that care and DO UNDERSTAND AND FEEL MUCH LIKE HIM.

There was no reason to attack BCDurbin whatsoever. Perhaps you are one the "Don't get it" crowd? I see and know the point BCDurbin made, all to well....I don't know if I will attend anymore shows or not either. When I can take the same money and go on a Windjammer Cruise for a week or perhaps save it towards another boat..or go to the Islands for a week or whatever else I may decide to do with it. It is MY money ( just as it is BCDurbin's money) to decide on how and where to spend it. That does not make us any less of a phan. Again, It is not YOUR money to spend for us or to tell us how to spend it. You don't know what our priorities are. Nor is it up to us on how you spend your money.

Perhaps you're a Yellow Album fan, perhaps not. Perhaps you have an unlimited trust fund, perhaps not. Perhaps you are a member of a local PHC in your area, tho I would guess not too.

45% ticket price increases over last year; cutting an entire section of the band AFTER the concert tour is announced; putting most of the major venues in one week (ATL, Cincy, and Alpine); putting tickets on sale in weird configurations of shows and on odd days (during the week, etc.).. all of those things are making this a bubble year.

Last year, the Buckeye PHC sent 50 folks on a bus down to the Cincy concert; the year before was approx. the same number (+/- 2). In 2004, the concert in Cinci was on a Tuesday night, last year was on a Sunday. This year, with the concert on a Thursday night (so plenty of opportunity to turn it into a 4 day weekend and all.. 15 tickets requested from the club collection. Other clubs are seeing the same thing.

M'ville (the ones Jimmy owns personally: KW, NO, and the lunch counter in Charleston) was set up as a retirement hedge against the time he stopped touring. That was predicated on the idea that his fans would buy trinkets and junk from him, rather than someone else, and that he, Jane, and the keets wouldn't starve. We don't go back for the incredible 5-star food or the cheap drinks, we go back for the music and the like; and Buffett has been doing a bit this year to alienate the folks that carried him thru the years from "Margaritaville" to the "License to Chill" album.

Now, that said: I have been to concerts all over the country and even had the little guy shove his way on stage and intrude on my Peter Mayer fix... However, I wouldn't question someone's decision that the price of tickets has gotten too high for them. (I would question the dedication of a "phan" who b1tches about having a 135 mile drive to the nearest concert, but that is another story entirely).

This year, I am going to two concerts for the tailgating and the chance to meet folks I have talked with for years, and renew friendships with folks I have seen regularly for the last 3-4 years. Candy and I will be at one, maybe 2 concerts but being the frugal ba$tard that I am, I'm in agreement with Mike too.. It's better to drop the cost of airfare, hotel, and food, and attend a regional PHC phlocking than it is to dump it all in a two-hour block of time.

I think it's already reached that point. In fact, I think it reached it long ago. For whatever it's worth, I saw the Stones on their last tour and stood up for the entire concert. Oh, and I didn't drive a Jag or pay $300 for tix either.

I don't think being a "newbie" on the site has anything to do with anything. Lots of people are Buffett fans and have been for a long time but they're simply new to the web, that doesn't mean they're new to Buffett. It's the "more tix for me" thing and the unwritten criteria of what makes someone a fan (or not) that bugs me. I haven't seen a show since the mid-90s but I'm not less of a fan than anyone here. I have all the albums, lots of t-shirts, all of his books, videos, DVDs, a vast collection of Coconut Telegraphs, ticket stubs, etc. If someone wants to express their disgust over the price of tickets that shouldn't put them in the "not a fan" category. Hell, at least they went to the show...

If given a choice between sitting next to you at a concert or hanging with BC on the beach, I will take the beach. What you have shown of your personality shows me that are precisely the type of person I avoid in the parking lot or on the lawn. The ones who keep count of the beers they drink and the shots they do as though it is some sort of a contest. Rather than hanging out and having a good time with everyone around.

I know of number of people in my firm that went to both...in their fancy cars...and made remarks about people standing. Of course it was a blanket statement, but I was trying to make a point.

And as we all know, like it or not, it is not a good idea to join a forum and start bashing members right out the gate.
