Why Not KC or St Lou?
Just curious if anyone knows why Jimmy plays some venues and cities quite often and we never see him elsewhere. I know, Riverbend, Alpine Valley, Great Woods and Jones Beach are popular and they are obviously making money. But does he ever play Kansas City, St Louis, or Boise (had to throw that one in
) not to mention Detroit, Houston, Washington and other markets of size. Seems the middle midwest and the Pacific Northwest are often overlooked (although I believe he did a show in Portland last year and Denver the year before that). Just wondering if it's a matter of sticking with the venues that consistently do him well, or is there just not as much of a following in some markets.

I'm guessing wildly, but I wonder if part of it has to do with whether or not he likes the city itself, since he's going to be spending a couple of days there....

2000 or so can guess with a little better information; their brother's sister-in-law's hairdresser's dog groomer's son worked a Buffett show once, and heard everything, after all
200 or so THINK they really know the answer
2 or 3 really do know the answer, but are wise enough to keep quiet

One of the Coral Reefers (I won't say which one) told me they'd never go back to Hartford (where Jimmy would play occasionally) because it IS a crap hole and the area near the venue and their hotel is crime ridden.ColdWaterConch wrote:Jimmy told me that KC and St. Louis are crap holes that don't have any good burger joints.
(I'm just quoting the Coral Reefer-I've never been to Hartford, so I don't know).

I think that SGH is actually closest to the mark....Buffett hangs out in the cities that he plays in, and there are probably some that he likes more than others.Wino you know wrote:One of the Coral Reefers (I won't say which one) told me they'd never go back to Hartford (where Jimmy would play occasionally) because it IS a crap hole and the area near the venue and their hotel is crime ridden.ColdWaterConch wrote:Jimmy told me that KC and St. Louis are crap holes that don't have any good burger joints.

I'm pretty sure that's not right- he flies to Chicago after he plays Indy and refuses to stay here from what I've been told. St. Louis would be about the same length flight.
It really seems like he has the usual places he goes, and doesn't stray too far from those. Last year it was kicked up because of the stadium shows, but he goes places where he knows the venue, staff etc- why bother breaking new people when the old people will do just fine?

Most, yes- but the Canterbury is fantastic. I can't think of any other on that level, but...RinglingRingling wrote:better hotels in Chicago than either STL or IND..Coconuts wrote:I'm pretty sure that's not right- he flies to Chicago after he plays Indy and refuses to stay here from what I've been told. yes and no, there's a number of cities he's in and out of the same day as the show with no overnight. usually the midwest and west coast swings have a "home base" for the leg...ColdWaterConch wrote:Buffett hangs out in the cities that he plays in, and there are probably some that he likes more than others.

Welcome to Buffett News, hubbs girl.
I hope you'll get to hang out here as often as your schedule permits.
If he hasn't yet been to the K.C. C.I.P., I'm betting he will someday very soon. There aren't many people who keep a closer eye on their personal intrests than Jimmy.
Sad to say, however, if he hasn't done a concert there in 10 years (I do remember the last time he played there), it's likely he won't be putting that on his "must do" list anytime in the near future.
HOPEFULLY there is more to Jimmy's touring future than just the NEAR future. Only time will tell. (Because JIMMY sure isn't saying anything).

I've heard a couple rumors why he hasn't come to St. Louis in several years. (Disclaimer: I don't know the reasons are true or urban myths, but I do know he hasn't been here since 2001.)
1. Riverport (or Clear Channel or whoever negotiated the contract for the venue) tried to haggle with him over his base salary, concessions, parking, etc. He was not to happy since all of the other venues 'bucked' up and paid.
2. After the stage was setup, Maryland Heights fire came in and told him he had to move parts of the stage because it was a fire hazard. Needless to say he wasn't happy with that.
Other reasons I can guess for no St. Louis.
1. I don't think Riverport sold out in 2001, why go if you can't maximize your income?.
2. JB is not a fan of the tornados and 'green skies' that went past Riverport the last time he was here.
3. Riverport wouldn't budge on the no-tailgating rule.
