it's not so easy in most places i don't think. even here in denver, the places one could afford to live alone you wouldn't WANT to.

I haven't lived with anyone besides my folks for more than 4 months. Should be interesting in the month or two before the wedding!

It's a little expensive here too. A couple of years ago a friend from law school sent me an email, she was selling her apartment because she was having a baby and her and her husband needed more room. The place they were selling was 900 sq.ft. and they were asking $490,000.

It
can be done. I'd say you can have a nice place to rent if you're making $35k or up and want to eat more than Ramen noodles... or if you can buy a condo/townhome/small house makin' about the same.
One of my good friends is kinda in that category and she's living with her dad so she can have a social life outside of paying rent.

For two years between college and marriage.
For six months in 2000, when I moved to a new job before the house sold, and the family stayed behind.
For ten months in 2001/2002, when I was recalled to active duty after 9/11. Ten months in a hotel room, eating out every meal, no fridge, no microwave. The freedom was great, but the hotel room thing got a little old....

Only if you tell me ALL the rooms in your new house have been, um, "christened".

I was lucky- Housing in Indy is cheap, and my studio (that was almost the same size as my two bedroom) was only $50 more than my half of the rent in a 2 bedroom.
