Finding My Own Personal Margaritaville

Post by MrTwain »

Where Is Your Own Personal Margaritaville?

Nice to meet y'all.

Jimmy talks a lot about his early days in the Catholic church and how he grew up fearing for his eternal soul.

Similarly, I was also a member of a large, organized, world-wide church. Everything I had (my time, my talents, my energy and mostly, my money) went to fund the ideas and dreams of others, who supposedly knew better than I, what I should be doing with my life. It seemed that everything was scripted for me.

Then, one day last year I decided to live by the choices and virtues that I felt were right and good rather than by those imposed upon me by old white men who were convinced they had an "in" with God.

Everyone needs their own personal Margaritaville. So where is my Margaritaville? I think I've found it. My own personal Margaritaville is a small, square office without windows where I spend roughly 50 hours per week to pay for the things I need on my own trip around the sun. The weather is always fine... a brisk 72 degrees and an endless supply of diet coke from the soda machine next door. I have a fan, a comfortable chair, and a never-ending resource of music, courtesy of Radio Margaritaville. I also get to see what other parrothears are up to by checking in at BuffettNews.com.

I'm thankful that at this season of my life I've discovered how to live easier, while loving more and worrying less. Over the last few months, I feel like I've FINALLY started to learn how to live. And, I've learned that living isn't about what you're doing... it's about how you're doing. And right now, I'm doing just fine.

So... where is your own personal Margaritaville?

Welcome, Mr. Twain; glad you're doing fine and it's nice to have you on board this crazy ship. :D

I'm curious, other than BN and RadioMargaritaville and Diet Coke, what happens in this windowless cube?

I am the IT director for a Houston firm. It's a bit more busy than what I've laid out above, but I do get slow periods from time to time that allow me to relax, reflect and slow my heart rate.

Welcome fellow parrothead. The saying here is you either get it...or you don't. Sounds like you get it & got it!! My Margaritaville is in "my room" where I have my PC & crafts etc. I painted walls sky blue w/clouds & seagulls. Painted large palm trees & put fish net between 2 of them to look like a hammock. Got grass skirts for curtains. Painted waves & dolphins on bottom of walls. Of course got everything collected over the yrs related to the beach scene. Music, lights, sharks, ready mixed margaritas ready to go.....yep this is my little peice of the world. When I get sent to my room....by my hubby for being cranky....I don't mind knowing I can relax. Now that I've bent your ear way back.....enjoy this site...got some fun people here & their posts will make you laugh out loud. :D

sitting by my pool at night with a cold beer - listening to a little Buffett.
I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

Welcome!

I wake up dreading on heading into work, and feel like my life is out of "Office Space". Oh, I wish I could speak so highly of my job (I'm an IT boss too).

Yeah... I'm gonna need you to go ahead and come into work this weekend...

My margaritaville is family vacation, somewhere warm, with my family. Or a nice cool drink on a nice hot day while floating on the lake in the Rum Runner.

Ok, last year sort of sucked! Got separated. Flew to Sarasota to rent a Harley and drive to Key West to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. Met great people in KW and decided to quit my job and move. Went home, got divorced, quit my job (retired but can't collect) flew back to KW, found a job and a place to live(always find the job before you move to KW or you will be sorry!), flew back home to pack, found a mover and hopped on my Harley for the ride to KW. Haven't looked back yet!

I knew what the cost of living was BEFORE I moved to KW. I knew the kind of income I would need. I am making more money than I ever did, but living with less. If you don't mind spending more on rent then you have ever payed on a morgage, KW is the place for you. I will die on this rock when my day is done.

I love my little Caribbean island. Come on down and visit me! :D
I'd rather be here, drinkin a beer, than freezin my ass in the north!
