I'll go with the original simply because "evidently" the following lyrics were not recorded for the new version:

I spent a year of my life one night
On the beaches in old Beirut
Seems that all they're aimin' for there
Is to hang around and shoot
Each others' lives away
Bloody winds on a distant bay
They're lookin' for better days

The dreamers line the state road
Just to watch the runway show
Slouched behind their steering wheels
They just watch the big jets go
Streakin' through the morning haze
Focal point of a distant gaze
Lookin' for better days
How could he not rerecord those lyrics?  Arguably Buffett's greatest song and we only gte to here a partial version. Not that I am partial to Floridays or anything. :D

The context of the rerecording is a movie aimed mostly (but not entirely) at kids, so that may have had something to do with it (especially the Beirut stanza).
