McKinney Admits "Error" With Taxpayer Money

Gee, I'm really glad I'm not a Georgia taxpayer......
McKinney Admits "Error" With Taxpayer Money

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Cynthia McKinney admits that she broke government rules by spending money to fly a celebrity to Atlanta.

Channel 2 Action News has uncovered documents showing McKinney, D-Ga., spent about $1,000 of taxpayer's money to fly singer Isaac Hayes to Georgia to help dedicate a new office in Atlanta.

The money came from a fund members of Congress are supposed to use for office supplies.

Using the money to pay for Hayes' airline ticket and hotel expenses is a violation of strict congressional rules. Those rules state that taxpayer money can only be used for "travel by Members, Members' employees and vendors. A vendor is an employee of a private company that provides maintenance and support for equipment and software..."

Watchdog groups call taxpayer-funded celebrity travel a blatant waste of taxpayer money.

McKinney staffers say they will reimburse the congressional fund for the cost of Hayes' flight and hotel room.

I hope they have to pay interest too. The money came Congressional funding. Would that be funded with Federal funds from Congress? Or, would it be funded by state funds from Georgia?

Good point..... If it was federal funds, that's MY tax money....

Good luck on that! I would say this is mild compared to some of her antics. She was "fired" for a while but managed to get voted back in.

The people that support in her district are not about to let her go. Like I said she is not in/from/representing my district ( THANK GOD!!!)

They are allready screaming "racial profiling" for her smacking a cop. Can you imagine what they would say or do if she were to be impeached or censored,or whatever it is you do, to a Senator or Congressman for breaking the rules.

It just puts her in good(?) company with all the other Senators and Congressman who are breaking the rules. And IMHO, they break the rules, they should be tossed out on their butts, WITH NO PENSION!

I HIGHLY AND FULLY AGREE!!! I would also like to see some prison time for them and I don't mean the pink palace, where they are free to come and go and be back in there roons by a certain time, and have a golf course.

Set a real message for them, that if you screw the people, you are going down hard. (YEAH YEAH YEAH....a pipe dream I know!!. But it would be nice IF it was done. Perhaps we might get a higher caliber of people to run for office and not have as much voter apathy.

At the very least issue them a ruck, a sleeping bag, and MREs, and maybe a tent, and a few other basic field living items, and teach them about field hygiene, then let them "live in the field" for a year or two or longer. Charge them for damaged or lost equipment during that time. After all IF it is good enough for our troops...is it good enough for them.
I have some other ideas for dealing with them also.

They violated the trust of "WE THE PEOPLE". When elected to office I do firmly believe they should ALL be held to a higher standard.

she is one of the dumbest members of Congress that I have ever heard. I believe she will be challenged in the primary.

She MIGHT BE...but looking at her district......I highly doubt it, or that the challenge would go anywhere. She was voted out once and after a brief stay...she was voted back in. That says a lot right there.

I agree! In the private sector, you get caught stealing from your employer at the very least you are fired and tossed out on your rear-if not prosecuted.

She stole. She stole money from her employer (us!)! Fire her, prosecute her and have her pay restitution, court/legal costs, and damages.

Maybe, if that was done a few times these politicians who think they are above the law will get the picture, I know Cunningham from San Diego did! :pirate:

I don't recall Cuningham blustering about his situation, the way McKinney is doing about hers. In fact I do remember him apologizing to the people for his abuse and wrongdoings. Doesn't make what he did right, but at least he displayed Honor about being caught and accepting his punishment.

The voters need to clean house OF ALL of the political parties instead of blaming each other's party affiliation ( if any, for the corruption and wrong doing on with ALL parties of elected officials.
A LOT goes on, behind the scenes that we generally never hear about. From drunk driving and being caught and then let go to much more.

There was a book out a few years ago about the Capitol Police, I think it was. No elected representitives were named but many situations were. All were given a "police courtesy" so to speak.
Remember the "checking scandal/ the illegal banking/ Postal stamps scandal" not too long ago, and nothing was really done to those involved.

I doubt anything will be seriously or otherwise done with McKinney after all the idiotic and stupid stunts she has pulled/attempted to pull in the past, and no doubt will continue to pull/ attempt to pull in the future.

Certainly her party does not want anything done with her, or the using of her race and calling it racial profiling. Not one has stepped forward to call her on it.

Now this stunt with the money, will only make many of those in her district see that it was racial profiling or harrasment of her.
It is most unfortunate and worse!

KEWL!! We can only hope that he is successful and that the voters in her district will get rid of her once and for all. I have my doubts though.

( I am not sure but I think the "gerrymandering " that went on in Georgia, is what allowed her to get voted back into office, after she was voted out.)

Correct Sam, as soon as she lost reelection they redistrict her area so that it worked for her.
