Are You The Lone Parrothead In Your Family?

Post by MrTwain »

Are there any BNers here who are the lone Parrothead in their family?

My conversion is only a few months old now. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed. More like "enlightened". I'm not doing different things in my life, I just see life a little differently.

Well, I don't think my family gets it. My wife graciously humors me, but I get the feeling that she's more humored than I am... almost sweetly patronizing about it.

My grunge metal, punk-rock-listenin, video-game-playing son has agreed to go with me to Dallas on the 28th. I think he'll have a great time.

What's my goal? I just want to evolve to a point to where I could throw on some Buffett when we're out on the boat and not have everyone go "ohhh man. Not Jimmy Buffett".

Most of the photos I see are of husband-wife Parrothead teams. Are any of you the lone Parrothead in the house? What's it like for you?

I won't say that me missing two concerts, at an outdoor venue, didn't hurt, because it did. And I won't put total blame on the woman that was my wife, but she gets some of it. I also won't say that's why we're no longer together.

What I will say is this, in my search for a new phriendly phemale a major portion of my concern is that she enjoys Buffett, the Denver Broncos and then her friends, family & me.

I've seen those Parrothead couples at the shows, and I've wished I was a part of one of those couples. But then I'm happy to see Jimmy alone if needed.

And yes, I'm the only Parrothead in my phamily, though I'm working on my two sons.

Happiness is: Hearing the 'keets sing along from the backseat!!

I would not say that I am a Lone Parrotthead as my 6 y.o. son and 8 y.o. daughter are Phanatics as well, but my wife has not migrated yet. I get the "can we listen to the radio" from her when she gets in my truck. All I have is Buffett CD's in the changer and just signed up to Dish Network so I can listen to Radio Margaritaville at home.

I am of the opinion that they either get it or not. When we are offshore JB is all we listen to as well. There is just something about watching the wake with JB pouring out of the speakers. My son knows the words to the oldies as well as I do, sometimes better I think!

I am definatly the only parrothead in the family, my sister will listen to JB if its on and enjoy it but the amount I play at the house has kind of worn on her, my brother likes the music and will be attending his first show this summer but is more there for the party than anything, my dad used to be a huge parrothead but now with being busy with work and stuff he only makes it to a show every year or two and does not really listen to the music anymore around the house and my mom just flat out doesnt get it
Both shows at Greatwoods in June
Seattle and Vegas in October

Girlfriend doesn't realize that shes going to be a parrothead by the end of this summer whether she likes it or not.

That's a great report, actually. I think taking my son to the concert will have a good effect. He is capable of appreciating things like that, even if he never fully converts, he'll at least get it. By the way, I am in Pearland.

Pearland is in my path when I head south for a good lung cleansing. I have a friend that has a 47' Bertram that he keeps at Bridge Harbour. Many good times down there.

My kids are dying to go to the concert and I plan to take them when he comes to Houston. They ask me weekly, especially my daughter, when he is coming

My family is ok with all things Buffett just not to the degree I am. My friends are another story. They just roll their eyes and ignore it, hoping it will go away.

My husband never had been to a concert before 1997... but he knew all the words to GOD, Peanut Butter...Ringling and SGH.... besides all the SYKBH.... but he doesnt wear Hawaiian shirts or grass skirts....

He says he married into the ParrotHead business..... but was certainly a fan well before me. But he loves the phlockings we have had and been too and I hear him proudly telling non PH friends about all my BN phrends.....

I found him a LIFEGUARD SAVING PARROTHEADS t-shirt in M-ville Jamaica... seems to work!

My wife likes buffett, just not to the degree that I do. I have one friend who is into buffett like I am, but that is it. Most of my friends like his music, but wouldn't know anything past 3 or 4 hits from the radio. And most would not go through the trouble of getting tickets to see a show. But that is ok, I'm just glad that my wife and at least one friend get it and will go to shows with me. And of course I make new phriends every time I see a show.

I'm really the only Parrothead in my house, but my wife, having a Parrothead dad and stepmom, is very tolerant of it. She does go to shows with me, and does have fun, and ocassionally will listen to the music of her own choice. I guess I'm pretty lucky in that regard.

Well, hubby and I and the keets all are, but no one else in my family is.

I guess the next closest to "getting it" would be MIL.

It's just me and my daughter here......I have phriends that "get it"...
We were listening in the car the other day and Caitlin said, "I feel bad for people who don't listen to Buffett.....they don't know what they're missing." Pretty enlightened.....even though the music choices in her room are waaaaaay different than Buffett!

I seem to remember having this discussion with the ex-fiance. She never saw the magic in "Stars on the Water" to bring a smile.
