As some of you know, I just recently became the proud "parent" of a Shih Tzu puppy. Her name is Buffy!
We have terrible sand fleas where I live so I'm wanting to put her on flea medication right away, she's already showing signs of having them, and she's only been outside a couple of times.
What kinds to y'all use? Which is the best, IYHO? What kinds should I stay away from? (i.e. OTC kinds you find in Wal-Mart)

Thank you all in advance!
Skip the OTC and get some Frontline.

Thank you all for the advice....seems like Frontline is what I'll go with.
Connie....I remember seeing a thread about that, when I first got the puppy my brother bought some Hartz stuff, but I didn't use it because of what people had to say about it.
She has an appointment coming up in the next week to get more shots so I'll mention to the vet that I want Frontline.

I believe it does, but ask the vet to be sure.

go to the vet and get the frontline. If you have a petsmart near you they have vets that are inexpensive and can give it to you. You'll need heartworm protection anyway.

Awwwwwww.......so de we....well not quite, he's about 6 yrs old now? wow how time flies........but anyway yeah we use frontline too
There's also some stuff out there called Adams Flea off Mist. It's gentle and a water pasted mist that you can spray on the pup just as you come inside. I've literally seen fleas fall off the dog dead. It's safe for puppies and cats too, came reccomended by my vet. In fact when I first started using it that was the ony way you could get it. Now you can find it just about at any pet supply store.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

How about a pic of the little guy?
Here's a pic of little Buffy when she was about a month old.......
Recent convert to frontline plus here. We used to use biospot because it was cheap and it worked. That was until one of my dogs had a bad reaction to it. This was after using it for many years. No more cheap flea meds for us.
BTW, I bought all of our Frontline off of ebay for way cheaper than the vet or even petsmart. You just have to do a bit of research to find reputable sellers and make sure they are selling the genuine product.
