Parrothead college prophessors
So I'm in college, and I like to think of myself as a pretty observant and aware kind of guy. I've noticed that at my school there are at least three professors that have Parrot Head license plates, stickers, and/or paraphernalia on their vehicle. I would assume that there are even more professors that are Parrotheads (or phans, at least) that just don't dig the car decorating idea.
Anyone else have a similar tune? You always hear that college professors and educated people tend to be liberal/progessive with their politics, so it's reasonable to think that there is a healthy number of Parrotheads in those ranks as well. Not saying all--or anything remotely resembling a majority--are Parrotheads, just a sector.
Any thoughts?

I really don't think the presence progressive/liberal views has anything to do with whether or not folks are Parrotheads....
The Tyco guy hired JB for that private birthday party, I'd really doubt he was anything but Republican... And there are many here that have more conservative/Republican views, that are fans enough to post here....

I didn't mean for those two things to get grouped. I was comparing the fact that professors and educated people are generally thought of as being liberal/progressive to the fact that it's possible there could be a connection between professors/educated people and Parrotheads. I don't want to draw lines between Parrotheads and politics, and I don't want to start a political discussion. I was just trying to put my statement into perspective by using the analogy of liberal professors.SharkOnLand wrote:I really don't think the presence progressive/liberal views has anything to do with whether or not folks are Parrotheads...
Let's keep politics out of here so we can all continue to get along in peace and harmony.

HAHA. I AM THAT PROFESSOR YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! I teach at the university level in New Hampshire, and rock the FINZZUP license plate. Just goes to show you that even college professors know how to live it up!!!

There are also several of us that are or have been university administrators----at least two of us in admission work, and I know some alumni relations/development parrotheads as well.

Another parrothead prof here. (Though at the community college level, we call ourselves "instructors"). Besides the "University of Margaritaville" window sticker, my students know I'm a Buffett fan because I often play RM on the computer during lab periods. They humor me.

hello, my name is janice and i am a parrothead prof...
i have radio margaritaville on every day when my students walk into class. they keep asking when the concert is cause they know i am excited about it. (and i think they are tired of me talking about it)
at my other university, most of the staff in the center i worked at were/are parrotheads to some degree. here, not so much. maybe i just haven't found them yet!
i'm sure there is some stat person who could run a correlational study on the political views & parrotheadism for you if you are interested...

And that's what I love. He's able to have his opinions and beliefs and stick to them without running his mouth about it constantly. I'm pretty liberal, but I get sick of celebrities that think just because they are famous they are knowledgable enough to discuss politics publicly, and even more sick when they decide they know everything and are in the position to talk politics. Having the ability to be a mouthpiece doesn't mean you have to be, or that you should. Too many celebrities on both sides of the political spectrum refuse to see that.Dezdmona wrote:He doesn't talk politics on stage.
I'm just happy Jimmy can bring people of all walks of life together, and allow us to forget about political tension and debate, despite the best efforts of celebrities, media and politicians. I think the ability to leave that off the table and come together for love of music is a beautiful thing that we are all very lucky to have.
