I wanna get wet!!!

Post by buffettbride »

From running through the sprinklers!!

We're starting another do-it-yourself project, and this time it's a sprinkler system!!! YAY!!!!

Anyone who has been to my house knows that we have the most awkward kind of lawn. We sit at the end of a cul-de-sac and our property is, yep, PIE shaped!! But, because of it's awkward shape, it's a b*tch to water and we don't get enough rainfall in the summer to just not water it. The sprinkler system will save us time, money, and definitely increase the value of our house! YAY! YAY! YAY!!!

Soooooo, I heard that Home Depot has a nifty 'lil computer thing where you can plot out your sprinkler system lines and heads and stuff. Anyone ever use this before or install your own sprinkler system?

We're trench-digging beginning April 22!! I'm sooo excited!!

Had one in OK...all the piping underground, and rain bird sprinklers..they seem to be the best...

we installed it ourselves

nothing computerize though, it was manual, cause someone was home at the time it needed watering...to turn it off and on...

not supposed to water at night, it can cause a fungus to get started...guess with your low humidity, that's not an issue..

oh yeah...the yard was 300 ft. wide x 150 ft. deep..a prefect rectangle....

 yeah. not a problem at all. in fact, most cities in colorado, including mine, don't allow watering between 10am and 6pm. our sprinklers would likely be timed to run at 10pm and 4am. :D

we don't have humidity here.

heck, I'd go to Lowes or Home Depot, you can get everything there...I'm thinking we used Lowes because it was closer...

They're extremely helpful and can assist you in every area of do it yourself

Our backyard is semi-circular but with some landscaping that gets in the way in certain places and our front yard are two very narrow strips of grass that run up to the sides of the house. It's a pain in the pork rinds!!

ours being a rectangle...although on a rather steep incline in the front...

I think I'd draw a diagram and take it with you, we used pvc pipe in the ground, we had controls set up to water 5 areas in the yard, as the front with the incline would get drier than the back

we dug the ditches...set the wholel thing up, ...

we lived out from town, so it was quite pricey to have anyone come out to do anything...

I can't imagine it would be that hard... just make sure to call the cable company and the phone company and such (hell you could just send them an inter-office memo or something :) ), you don't want to trench through the wires going into your house, and have them out of service for a few days....

The hardest part would be going underneath sidewalks and driveways and such, I think you can rent an auger or something to 'drill' under them....

Get self-draining... that way you don't have to blow them out yourself, unless you're into that sort of thing.
