Great story in the "news section" from the LA TIMES on SFX and Ticket Scalping in general. I think most of us who stood in line this year already knew that tickets were being held back from the public but it's nice to finally see it print. The one part of the article that I find funny is the the part about the artist not being aware of it, yeah right.

nd, here's a link to that story: http://www.latimes.com/business/updates ... 000608.htm

It's hard to decide if SFX is a good thing or bad when you get to the end. Be your own judge. Personally I believe their practice of selling choice tickets way above the ticket price and splitting the profits with the artist (in this instance not JB) is still against many scalping laws currently in effect.

There is a post somewhere here on the boards to go to the SFX site - I myself signed up with them, I will now remove my membership.

hoops! - I believe it's a Hippy's perogative to change her mind (don't laugh too hard), but after thinking on it:

Well after reading the following article a second time, I will definitely cancel my membership. SFX is what THEY call legal scalping. Wait until you read what happened to a ton of JB tickets to Irvine:

http://www.latimes.com/business/updates ... 000608.htm

Then, please, please if SFX is active in your state and your state has a current anti-scalping law, go to the site below and file a complaint with your state attorney general, be sure to send them the link to the above article, or else we wil all be blue, screwed and tatooed and paying $200 for a lawn ticket!

As I expected SFX run the Great Woods (Tweeter Center). It all makes sense now since last saturday I went over to my local Ticketmaster outlet to purchase Bob Dylan tickets and was the only one in line when 10 am came around. Told the guy I wanted "best available" and got section 5 in the pavillion. 30 secs after they go on sale and section 5 is the best available. The day Buffett tickets were on sale I was toward the front of the line and 4 minutes after they started I got up and all pavillion seats were gone. The way the article talks it's like maybe 3000 tickets per show not being offered to the public but I would be willing to bet it's close to half the seats and maybe a few lawn tickets.

No doubt it's closer to half the pavillion seats and probably a quarter of the grass. Pretty enlightening article, though. Finzzzz Up

wonder if DATELINE NBC, 20/20, AND 60 MINUTES would like to do a story on SFX and ticket scalping.

Since Ed Bradley's a Parrothead maybe he will do it. Seems like it's right up his alley.

Quoting the LA times article

"Sources say SFX delivered about 4,000 tickets directly to the Howard Rose Agency, which represents Buffett. Sources within Rose's agency say it turned the tickets over to Buffett's manager, Howard Kaufman. Neither Rose nor Kaufman would comment for this story. Sources close to the singer, however, said a small portion of the tickets were distributed to fan club members, record company employees and guests of Buffett's tour sponsor Corona Lite. It's unclear where all the rest of the tickets went--or how so many top seats withheld by SFX and Buffett's manager ended up in the hands of brokers."

Sounds like jimmy either knows exactly what's going on or needs a new manager.

Got to Jones Beach 5AM 6/10 #197 out by the time I got to window Got to sit around with vans full of teens dropped off who don't even know who the artist was. One guy got thru on cell to Buffalo , one to NC and 1 to Syracuse. I stopped at local tm and they said the 1st guy on line was already in the back right of central sect. what happened to the first 1/3 seats? Everyone started selling at 9 supposedly. Any ideas?

f you take a cruise through the other discussion topics in this category you will see discussions that have been ongoing since all of the other venues went on sale March 18. Same stuff, different day.

Scalping, scalping, scalping. If you find tickets to the Jones Beach concert on the internet for same at more than 10% of the ticket price, then it is again NY State law. Visit http://www.calypso.com/ufotts and go to the Attorney General page. You can file a complaint against any or all scalpers. And, New York is very aggressive.

Another tip is to call Jones Beach - not TM for house tickets that are being turned in, this usually happens two to three weeks before and up to the day of the event. That's how I got mine a week ago for Pine Knob Tomorrow.

Good Luck!

I love Jimmy Buffett. But the Greatful Dead and Phish have the right idea. They have mail order tickets. These tickets vary form location to location. I got upper pavilion and my friends got lower pavilion and these are the shows at deer-creek. I had to go to a broker and pay $65.00 for lawn seats.

Atlanta venue:

We bought 3 lawn tickets from a scalper the day of the show for $100 each. We were told, 30 minutes before show start by the Lakewood Ampitheatre staff, that they were bogus and had them confiscated. We tried to find the thug who sold them to us, but we couldn't find him. I was IRATE!
