Help, I need to find a song... Please

Post by disney1928 »

I have been looking everywhere for a particular song and I can't find it can anyone help?????
I believe the song is called one of two things... either it's "The A**hole Song" or "The I-95 Song"
I have found the lyrics on the internet, and I remember this song from many years ago, but for the life of me I can't find out where I can get it.
It is listed as a Jimmy Buffett song on the lyrics sites... I don't know if he sang it or just wrote it for someone else.
I need to hear it again because right now my new boss fits the description perfectly!!!!!!

The subject comes up every now and again. Concensus is, it's not Jimmy... but it sounds like him. If you google, you should be able to find an mp3...

Good luck!
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

It's the A$$HOLE SONG by David Allen Coe! :D

Well I was drivin' down I-95 the other night.
Somebody nearly cut me right off the road.
I decided it wasn't gonna do any good to get mad.
So I wrote a song about him instead.
It goes like this...

Were you born an a**hole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an a**hole tonight.

Yes you're an A S S H O L E...
And don't you try to blame it on me.
You deserve all the credit.
You're an a**hole tonight.

You were an a**hole yesterday.
You're an a**hole tonight.
And I've got a feelin'
you'll be an a**hole the rest of your life.

And I was talkin' to your mother
just the other night.
I told her I thought you were an a**hole.
She said, "Yes. I think you're right."

And all your friends are assholes
'cause you've known them your whole life.
And somebody told me
you've got an a**hole for a wife.

Were you born an a**hole?
Or did you work at it your whole life?
Either way it worked out fine
'cause you're an aaaassss...hole tonight.
got to stop wishin' got to start fishin'....

after reading through the first page of sites when googling it, I'd say it was written by Fred "August" Cambell, and performed(in the common studio version) by August & the Spur of the Moment Band. Buffett may have covered it in the late 70's/early 80's, either live or on some rare album out there.

David Allan Coe somehow got mixed up in it too, I'm sure sure why tho. Doesn't sound a thing like him
We used to laugh at Grandpa when he'd head off and go fishing. But we wouldn't
be laughing that evening when he'd come back with some whore he picked up in
town.

Yep, it's not him either though people will swear it is. I guess it's another case of a song getting mislabeled. For instance the Gourds' version of Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Gin n' Juice" got mislabeled on Napster as being by Phish. I have people to this day saying it is not the Gourds but it is. Same case with this song being attributed to the likes of Buffett and Coe. They've never recorded it.

I prefer the Gourd's version over Snoop Doggs.. its so great.

I also knew that it wasn't Phish...

I do too.

I was aware of that as well. Actually I had picked up several of their other albums before ever hearing "Gin n' Juice" even though I knew of it for a while. I noticed from their recent set lists when they were opening for Susan Tedeschi that they've finally dropped it from their set list after suggesting that they might for quite some time. I know that'll disappoint the drunken frat contingent but that's no huge loss. "Gin n' Juice" is a cool song (if a bit overplayed) but there's lots more to their catalog than that.
