I'm having a big party and I'm supplying margaritas. I'm thinking I'll make them by the gallon, (using cheap plastic gallon containers) but I need help with the measurements. I'm thinking like 1/3 tequila 2/3 mix. Any suggestions?
Also how many gallons for 40-50 people? It's BYOB otherwise and not everyone will be drinking margaritas; although it's an all day thing.
Thanks!

Hey Carey!
Every year for the concert we make large quantities (several gallons) of Margaritas in large plastic coolers and here's what we do:
1) Don't use a mix.
2) Don't use a blender
3) DO use tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice (we use Rose's brand)
4) Combine in the following proportions in whatever container(s) you have and stir well with a big wooden spoon or similar tool:
~ 3 parts tequila
~ 1 part Cointreau
~ 1 part lime juice
5) Once mixed, pour over ice cubes (not crushed ice) in a Margarita glass. You may also rub the rim of the glass w/ lime juice and dip in salt.
Also, since Cointreau is a bit pricey, you can substitute triple sec if you have to...But it's not as good.
Note: this is the original recipe from back in '48, and it is STRONG. We usually end up reducing the amount of tequila somewhat.
Enjoy!
