While heretical here on BN, I just don't see this movie having any mass appeal....it is a left-leaning environmental activism movie. I just don't see hundreds of thousands of kids begging mom and dad to go see it.

I don't think it's going to be a 'huge' hit as well....but I think it will have kids interest. Even if it does moderate at the box office, I can see the DVD sales being strong.ColdWaterConch wrote:While heretical here on BN, I just don't see this movie having any mass appeal....it is a left-leaning environmental activism movie. I also don't think this has anything to do with politics either. Believe it or not, and you wouldn't guess it from the media, but there are Republicans that care about the environment as well and don't consider it the enemy.

$10-$15 mil is a reasonable guess. Even though it's not a direct competitor to MI3, "Hoot" will get lost in its wake. Again, in my book, the two week delay in releasing "Hoot" has taken away its competitive advantage and will definately cost them at the box office.

I don't disagree with you at all. However, during his really wierd time last year he was in "War of the Worlds" which has been his biggest grossing film to-date. Recently saw a show on upcoming movie releases, what to watch for, etc. in the next couple months and "Hoot" never got a mention; 1/2 the time was spent on MI3 with all critics, host, etc. saying it would still be a big hit, and a couple other films were discussed.Havaña Dreamer wrote:Bah, MI3... I agree he's nuts....but even his critics are saying that this is a good movie and Cruise is good in it.Havaña Dreamer wrote:Bah, MI3... Tom Cruise is a WHACK JOB! I hope it flops because everybody thinks he is nuts.

I saw the preview at the movies a few weeks ago, Buffett is in the very first clip, but I don't think I'll go see it, unless I take the 'keet, it looks like one of those movies where the smart kids are battling the really stupid adults, and of course, the kids will win out in the end. That's how the trailer portrays it, anyway. It was shown with the "Shaggy Dog", which I took the 'keet to see awhile back.

The Hollywood marketing machine is always gonna hype the big production. We rented War of The worlds... thought it was kinda stupid. with or without Cruise. I find it hard to watch Cruise movies after he has gone off the deep end. Did anybody see the interview he did recently for Primetime or whatever news show it was?? My wife watched it she said he looked like he was ready to exploded when questioned about his beliefs.Quiet and Shy wrote:I don't disagree with you at all. I think there's a good chance that the ParrotHead Effect will assure that HOOT leaves a footprint on the movie industry scoreboard. It will be fun to see if the movie critics discuss the PH Effect on earnings.
For example, the movie "Holes" was a great movie. But it didn't gross more than what most thought it would. However, what if 500K more people had seen the movie because JB had a role and had done the soundtrack? Suddenly, the movie would have raised some eyebrows in the industry.
My prediction: HOOT will earn $60 Million, total. I think $20 Million will be because of people like us. As a comparitor, a movie in a similar genre, "Because of Winn Dixie" (Starring Jeff Daniels , Dave Matthews & Cicily Tyson) grossed $32 Million.

I was watching ABC Family last night with the 'keet....replay of the second Harry Potter.
And I saw the HOOT trailer twice during the movie. Maybe they are starting to kick up the advertising as the release date gets closer.
Rocky told me she 'thinks' she's seen it on another channel during a kid's show...but cant' remember what show or when. (Par for a kid I guess.)
