The 5th grade classes at our school are reading in class now and have been talking about the upcoming movie. I have mentioned it several times in my preschool class. I got the soundtrack over the weekend and we listened to a few songs today. Tomorrow we will look at the footage of Jimmy and the owls and talk about different kinds of owls. I made a little owl craft to go along with it.

Yea, like I mentioned a little while ago, I saw a commercial this morning on GMA.ToplessRideFL wrote:I actually saw a commercial for HOOT last night.... cannot recall the channel.....Dezdmona wrote:They must be counting on Parrotheads, because marketing hasn't been very good for this film...

Hopefully the marketing has now begun.

Trailers are being shown on the Disney Channel.
I tend to agree with LIPH. Hoot is a low-budget flick. I mean, this isn't Passion of the Christ where churches are renting out the theatre or people are seeing it 5 times. If Hoot does $30M, they've doubled their investment.

Preview screening was a date with the wife (yeah, I know I'm cheap - I did spring for the jumbo popcorn though...), I'll take the whole family to go see it, and I'll defiently buy at least 1 dvd.Dezdmona wrote:I wonder how many Parrotheads will have seen one of the preview screenings and not go for a paid viewing? :o

Not quite...$16 million was the production cost and I'll bet they're at least matching that with promotion and advertising...so the break even will be around $32 million.ColdWaterConch wrote:If Hoot does $30M, they've doubled their investment.

We're now planning a Hoot Party with parents and kids to be followed by heading to the moviehouse to see the movie. Most of the kids (and parents) have read Hoot and can hardly wait for the movie.

MI3 is only rated PG-13. I took my son to see Ice Age 2 the other night, and there was a preview for Hoot, I asked him if he wanted to see it, he was like Hell NO---Id rather see MI3

Funny...my daughter is reading Hoot in class right now...I asked her if she wanted to see the movie and said no. For some reason, this isn't a "Holes" kinda thing.Big Jimmy wrote:Soraya wrote:But you can't take 'keets to MI3.....and lately all there have been are stupid comedies (and I do mean stupid...not just silly) or cartoons. If they have spent $16M on promotion, they have p*** their money away. Promotion of this movie has not been that good.Quiet and Shy wrote:Not quite...$16 million was the production cost and I'll bet they're at least matching that with promotion and advertising...so the break even will be around $32 million.ColdWaterConch wrote:If Hoot does $30M, they've doubled their investment.
Has JB been talking it up at the concerts?

It's been previewing in theaters for a couple months now. The mainstream publicity is just now kicking in, however.ColdWaterConch wrote:If they have spent $16M on promotion, they have p*** their money away. It's a shame they tossed so much momentum out the door (screening, Earth Day link, etc.) by pushing the opening back two weeks and burying it under MI3.
1. Silent Hill $20mil
2. Scary Movie 4 $17
3. The Sentinel $14
4. Ice Age: The Meltdown $13
5. The Wild $8
6. The Benchwarmers $7
7. Take the Lead $4
8. Inside Man $4
9. American Dreamz $4
10. Friends With Money $3
I think "Hoot" could have done fairly well in this mix.

Here's what the competition would have been had it been released this past weekend:
1. Silent Hill $20mil
2. Scary Movie 4 $17
3. The Sentinel $14
4. Ice Age: The Meltdown $13
5. The Wild $8
6. The Benchwarmers $7
7. Take the Lead $4
8. Inside Man $4
9. American Dreamz $4
10. Friends With Money $3

It's a kid's movie... the real money will be made off of DVD sales.

You're right. To date, Holes (another Walden Media film that opened in late April) has grossed roughly $70 Million to date.McQueen5150 wrote:It's a kid's movie... the real money will be made off of DVD sales.

Hoot may have a similar run.

For my son there is not enough action in Hoot, or enough of what he calls "boobies". What can I say, for his 7th Bday he wanted to go to Hooters.ColdWaterConch wrote:Funny...my daughter is reading Hoot in class right now...I asked her if she wanted to see the movie and said no. Looks like a $3.4M opening...LIPH was pretty close (of course, the numbers get revised Monday afternoon). Either way, a weak opening and I'm sure it will be on DVD by the summer.
