OUCH... I figured it'd have a better showing than that!

'Keet and I went to see it this afternoon (took the grandparent's too)...it was actually a pretty good movie. I loved the scenery....and of course BUBBA!
Everyone in the theatre looked at me like I was from outer space...as I sang along with the movie. Bet they were wondering how I already knew the tunes, huh?

I will definately buy it, when the DVD is released.

With such a weak opening, by the end of the month I think you'll have a hard time finding a theater still showing it.

It's a shame that it didn't do that well. But it did have some fierce competition. I'm wondering if box office numbers will go up during the week b/c teachers are taking classes to see it. I know they were promoting group sales quite a bit. Just a thought....

Ice Age was in its 6th week, showing on 600 less screens, and did $600K more. Ouch.

Wow, we must have seen a different movie. The scenery was great and the music was good but the movie was poorly written and directed. Kids should enjoy it but even for kids standards, it was below average. Way too many plot holes and unbelievable events. I really enjoyed going with my daughter and we will buy it on DVD because she really liked it (she's 4) but unless you're under 10, it's a bit rough.

Word of mouth is definitely not going to help the box office. It's a shame - they could have done MUCH better with this movie.

You're right. To date, Holes (another Walden Media film that opened in late April) has grossed roughly $70 Million to date.

Hoot may have a similar run.
But Holes is a much better movie

This should have been a September movie. It was up against Tom Cruise and Robin Williams. Unfortunately it did not stand a chance.

Somewhere I had seen "limited release" but only two of the top 12 were in more theaters than Hoot (MI3 and RV). Of the top 12, Hoot had the lowest per-theater...it'll be interesting to see if it stays in enough theaters this next week to even stay on the radar.... :-?

Rather than start or re-start a thread about the soundtrack - Did anyone notice that JB did not write any of the songs he sings (except Floridays obviously)? Thought that was kind of funny.

Is the movie really that bad?

I didn't think so at all. It's a very simple movie that a parent would enjoy with their child. It's worth the price of a matinee ticket, and some snacks. :D

It's not like he has never done covers before.

The movie is not that bad. It's not an art movie. It's not a blockbuster. It's a kid's movie that assumes that kid's have half a brain and care about something other then videogames.

I also thought the movie was good. It stuck much to the book. The school where I teach has five copies of the book and it is always checked out. Movie and the soundtrack was great. I admit it had to compete against RV and MI3. But it will be ok. Anyone know what the movie cost to make and publize?

Estimates I'd seen were $16 mil production and $16 mil marketing (the second figure is less certain).

My experience at the movie house was enjoyable. I figured it to be really full but as it turned out the theater had at least 3 "kids" movies showing. I do believe if they keep their advertising up (I really haven't seen much in my area) the next few weeks will pay the bills. It's a good show to see at the theater but I do believe DVD's will do well. 8) 8)

My wife and I took the 2 keets to see it Sunday afternoon. I thought it was pretty good. It was a "fun feel good" movie for the family. The kids loved it. What I liked is when Jimmy first appeared on screen my 6 year old screamed out..."theres Jimmy Buffett!!" :o There was some laughing and one person cheered. I was proud.....It was an enjoyable outing.
Was it the best movie I have ever seen?....No... but it wasn't the worst either. We laughed some, enjoyed the scenery, ate some popcorn, got to hear some Buffett tunes at the movies and were entertained. (And the good guys won). It was worth it.
Thanks Jimmy!!! :P
