Radio Margaritaville to become Video Margaritaville...?

Post by Quiet and Shy »

So Jimmy referred many times during the Dallas show to the Video Margaritaville location in Winter Park (?), FL. (I don't want Jimmy to be disappointed and think we dropped the ball since he said it would be on the internet today... ) I was wondering what might be the bigger picture here....

I don't know what technology was used yesterday, but do you think this is a Sirius deal (does satelite radio have video capability)?

I've read where he used to do video broadcasts via the net (before highspeed was the norm)...do you think this might be where they're going with this...that RM will become VM?

If anyone was in Winter Park, FL...what was the deal there and how was the video feed quality, etc.?

I recall Jimmy broadcasting one of his shows from Margaritaville Cafe in New Orleans to the Margaritaville in Orlando via satelite. Boy, I wish I knew someone who snagged that satelite feed!

I would imagine that the video that was broadcast was the same video from the big screens. I don't see Jimmy broadcasting them for free...maybe it was a test run for pay-per-view?

The Margaritavision from years ago was pretty cool...it was kind of like watching a "flip-book". It would be awesome with the high speed we have now.

I cannot believe this happened so close to where so many of us live and we hadnt a clue about it! :(

However...Jimmy really didnt go into much detail Alison. But I got the impression that this might be something he is testing for future concerts. And Yes, I think it would be pay per view type of thing.... I dont watch it, but Howard Stern has Howard TV on Sirius.... and what little I know about it makes me think Jimmy is thinking in the same terms. Just guessing of course....but you know how he loves technology.

So Sirius does have a video capability?? Didn't know that. How is Howard's done (vs. the version seen on cable)?

So basically a subscription or pay-per-view through regular TV vs. through the internet?

My understanding that Sirius was supposed to be launching video players this year. They already have a contract with Disney to show a few disney channels ... it's supposed to be like satellite TV for your car to keep the kids entertained while you drive. :)

I can't wait for the Sirius portable stuff to come out this spring/summer too. Then you will be able to catch JB almost anywhere.

I am interested in seeing how the video stuff would work. But I thought Mel said it wouldn't be out till Jan '07. I could be wrong though.

Initally talks were spring 06 - this was a year or so ago. More recently it was pushed until fall of 06 while some readings I saw mentioned early 2007. If it's sirius they will hype it for a while and the official launch date could be off as much as 6-8 months. I would hope in time for Christmas this year but father's day 2007 might be more realistic. Then there are the legistics and even if "video Margaritaville" will ever come to attrition.

Maybe that is why they never showed the people partying in the audience or parking lots in Dallas.

The only thing they showed on the big screens were Jimmy and the Coral Reefers--no partying in the parking lot or on the lawn on at the show. (Correct me if I'm wrong anyone who was there.) I don't think they even showed the front row folks.

They didn't even show the usual CILCIA video from other concerts. They did show some parrothead stuff during Here We Are at the end.

Then they showed the same few people in Florida "partying" while watching the simulcast of the concert.

During Cheeseburger IN Paradise the main girl in the video all night was eating on a cheeseburger. :) The video only showed a few people and it looked like it was all planned for the video feed to Dallas.

I'm guessing Florida viewers were seeing just the same video we were getting from the stage.

"partying", yah right! LOL    Those people weren't partying much.

I agree it was pretty lame, and probably planned as well. I could see, however, during Margaritaville (I think), the woman in the front with the orange shirt kept saying, and pointing to herself and her mouth was saying "It's my fault, It's my fault"
