All i know I'm guessing you're about 10- 15 years older than me and I've seen my team win 6 titles to your 1. I know plenty about winning. Remember the Florida Marlins who haven't been around 15 years yet have twice as many titles as your team in our lifetimes....BottleofRum wrote:job41475 wrote:AL East Standings

Do you really beleive that? At the end of the season of the Red Sox have a 19-10 advantage in head to head games and we haev a better overall record, we win the division.RAGTOP wrote:hmmmmm percentage pointsjob41475 wrote:AL East Standings

Are you 15 years old? If not then your guessing is off.
In 4 years I have watched 3 super bowl champions and 1 world series champion. NY, with twice as many pro teams - O-fer!

my point was if they ended the season tied, head to head becomes very important... see last seasonjob41475 wrote:Do you really beleive that? Now that you explain what you meant, it makes more sense. To be honest we're virtually tied now but we have a better winning percentage. Of course when it's all over the amount of games played will be even. Like I said if the Sox win 19-10 heads up and we win the division by a game, I'm happy. In baseball though I agree that every game matters especailly between these two teams.RAGTOP wrote:my point was if they ended the season tied, head to head becomes very important... see last seasonjob41475 wrote:Do you really believe that? I'd LOVE to see interleague play end once and for all, and have teams like the Yankees & Red Sox, Cubs & Cardinals, Dodgers & Giants, etc., play each other more often.
And none of this crap that, if two teams finish the season in a tie, the team who has a better record than the other is declared the division winner. THIS ISN'T THE FRIGGIN' N.F.L.!!!!!
If two teams are tied for first, HAVE A ONE GAME PLAYOFF, as they did in years past, and whoever wins is THEN the division winner.
There's no crying AND NO TIEING in baseball.

Interleague play has runs it's course. But I would like to see the NL teams who have not played in Fenway come play once. The Cubs and Giants have never played at Fenway. Last season being at Wrigley for the Cubs - Red Sox games was fun.Wino you know wrote:I'd LOVE to see interleague play end once and for all, and have teams like the Yankees & Red Sox, Cubs & Cardinals, Dodgers & Giants, etc., play each other more often.

The Brewers haven't either since they been in the NL but we saw enough of them when they were in teh NL.

You mean when the Brewers were in the AMERICAN League?BottleofRum wrote:Interleague play has runs it's course. But I would like to see the NL teams who have not played in Fenway come play once. I saw them play the White Sox during my very first visit to the new COMISKEY PARK in 1991. Robin Yount-Paul Molitor! DYNAMITE!!!
I thought I read somewhere that the Cubs are scheduled to play the Red Sox at Fenway in 2008. We'll see.
I never did like interleague play.
Playing teams in one's own league was good enough for Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, et. al. Sorry, but SOME traditions just shouldn't be messed with. I DO understand the sentiment of fans living in major league cities wanting to see teams from the "other" league. (ROAD TRIP TIME).
I'm old enough to remember when both leagues had only 8 teams each, and each team would play each team in their league 22 times.
Hell, if a hitter was slumping to .280, he'd be sent to the minors. NOW if someone is batting .230, he's the "franchise player," and is paid over 5 million damn dollars.

I agree that interleague play has run it's course, but it has been a factor in the continuing rise of interest in baseball. In Boston the only series anyone cares about this year is the return of Pedro with the Mets. Stubhub is flooded with tix for the other interleague matchups (except the Phillies, whose fans make the trip to Boston).Wino you know wrote:I'd LOVE to see interleague play end once and for all, and have teams like the Yankees & Red Sox, Cubs & Cardinals, Dodgers & Giants, etc., play each other more often.
As far as play in the division, 18 or 19 times a year is TOO MUCH. I agree with Terry Francona that when you get to the post season you haven't faced your opponent often enough to get familiar with them. This is one reason why pitching is most important in the playoffs: opposing hitters have a tremendous disadvantage against pitchers they've never seen. The other important factor is the wild card. I would rather have more play between the divisions to be a bigger factor in choosing who goes to the playoffs.
