Biggest weekend of the year here...always the first weekend in May..

On an island of 10,000 people, with a weekly newspaper....we have between 120,000 and 180,000 people descend on us.

Hmmmmm.....

Maybe I should leave! 8)
Good Grief that's a lot of people... Some of my Tifton friends said they're heading to "the Island."

Tifton's having our annual "Love Affair with the Arts" festival. Probably about 30,000 will descend on the park half a block from my house.

We're going to a concert with Rhythm Nation on Cinco de Mayo, but I forgot it was even that day... Just May 5th to me!

That's right. May 6th. Mallory Square. Right???
Nope... It is May 6th, but it's actually on the other end of Duval on the beach. :D You may have mine confused with Donna K's... She got married this time last year and I think that one was in Mallory Square. Leavin' in about 8 hours!! Wish me luck... :-? :P
I just remember last year the two of you talking about having the same wedding, only a year apart.

Good luck!
We also share a BIRTHDAY if it gets any weirder.

Q and I will also be in KW for our anniversary. :)

No Coronas, Pacificos or tortilla chips for us, notice I was nice and avoided the use of slang, unlike our neighbors to the south. Now that I think about when we go to Cabo later this year, think I will hold on to my tip money

That is about as low as you can get. How do you know the servers's opinions on things, or if they took part in any marches, and yet you want to withold part of their wage because you don't like what other Mexicans are doing.

If you hate Mexicans so much, why even go to their country? Please....stay home.
Bumper, I fail to see how someone posting an opinion that the staff working hard to make your vacation in Mexico a pleasant one have nothing whatsoever to do with the illegal immigrants who protested on Monday equates to you feeling that person has called you a racist.

How exactly is this gonna work anyway? You are staying at an American owned hotel and going on an American owned charter boat? Are you going to withhold tip from the mate on that charter boat if he/she happens to be Mexican but not if they are American?.....and in your hotel, you are only going to tip those staff members who appear to be "gringos" but withhold from the maid if you catch a glimpse of her and she's Mexican. I'm just curious because it sounds pretty complicated, a situation that could be avoided entirely should you choose to vacation in the States....of course, you may very well still run into the same problem with the housekeeping staff, providing you have the ability to know a Mexican on site (as opposed to someone from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Central America, etc....).

In my eyes, racial decrimination has always meant negative treatment of an entire race of people based on your negative experiences with the actions of a very few. Don't get me wrong, I totally disagree with the protest that occurred on Monday but the Mexican people you encounter on your vacation, in all likelyhood, had absolutely nothing to do with it.

As for not funneling money into the Mexican economy because they pay their employees so poorly that they have to rely on tips from tourists?? That, in no way differs from the way things are done here in America.

One more thing......I find it to be pretty ironic that your response to that post was to accuse him/her of being a drug user...yet you are the one demanding a retraction and public apology? :o

To answer DKD's question, I plan to make Chile Verde and party with my parents at the beach. :D

If you read carefully, Soraya states, "If you hate Mexicans so much, why even go to their country", Where do I say or imply I hate Mexicans? To hate an entire people especially those of a "different color, or culture" is the foundation on which racism, bigotry and discrimination are built. She did not ask how I viewed Mexicans or Mexico she directly stated it as fact. An individual or group protest against an idea, notion or practice has nothing to do with harboring hate.
It was irresponsible and unwarranted.

I've known both the skipper and owner for a few years and to be stand up fellas. Makes no difference if one is American and the other Mexican. Either I would call friend and yes I will tip the skipper if no other reason based on our personal relationship.

.....and in your hotel, you are only going to tip those staff members who appear to be "gringos" but withhold from the maid if you catch a glimpse of her and she's Mexican.
The hotel automatically includes 3.50 a day for maid tips. Whether that makes it to maid is not a matter I am concerened with.

Not sure what you mean? hard to get past your sarcasm

In my eyes, racial decrimination has always meant negative treatment of an entire race of people based on your negative experiences with the actions of a very few. Don't get me wrong, I totally disagree with the protest that occurred on Monday but the Mexican people you encounter on your vacation, in all likelyhood, had absolutely nothing to do with it.

and your point is what? You wish to measure my level of annoyance with the "nothing from a gringo day" on Monday to whether or not I keep my plans for vacationing in Cabo?..I guess you don't see the irony between the two.

As for not funneling money into the Mexican economy because they pay their employees so poorly that they have to rely on tips from tourists?? That, in no way differs from the way things are done here in America.

Right, appears to me that you and Soraya agree on this point, if I were to cancel my plans for Mexico then I would be taking appropriate steps in displaying my displeausre with the protest, then I would'nt have been told "I hate Mexicans", maybe Mexico but it's impossible to separate a country from its culture!!! If I understand correctly Soraya and you, Mexicans who participated in "Nothing from a Gringo Day" hate Americans?, America?, white folks? it wasn't "nothing from a America day"

One more thing......I find it to be pretty ironic that your response to that post was to accuse him/her of being a drug user...yet you are the one demanding a retraction and public apology?

a moderate attempt at stirring the pot, a 4 out of 10, an edit yes, a public apology?are you on dope?

Hey, no hard feelings.....I was making a genuine attempt to try and understand how you were going to go about imposing the withholding of tips you spoke of. It was not my intention to be sarcastic and I'm sorry I was apparently mistaken when I read hostility in your original post on the subject. I understood it to read that you were going to monetarily punish people down in Mexico for the protest that Mexicans here in America participated in, which makes no sense to me.

Life's too short and we don't seem to be communicating very well so I think I will just bow out at this point and we can agree to disagree. :D

I hope you have a great trip to Cabo. I've not been but I hear the fishing is great. What's biting there this time of year?....striped marlin, perhaps?

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of the Mexicans from domination by the French....from Napoleon, that little psycho that wanted to rule the world. Napoleon was evil. Defeating him was good. May 5 is as good an excuse to celebrate as any.
