I think it's time to change the name of the band to The Beach Men.

Nah . . The Beach Boys were the three Wilson brothers, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine..... Accept no imitations!
I agree. Not too fond of how Mike Love has desecrated the name though.
i agree there!!

AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I will allow Bruce Johnston to be considered a Beach Boy, he has been with the band long enough. Does anybody remember besides Jahfin when Blondie Chaplain was in the line-up....he sang lead on "Sail on Sailor" on the one Beach Boy's live album released in the 1970's. Did he also sing the lead on the studio version Jahfin, I forget?

I have twice been part of the *undesirable element* (the drunken mass of 500,000 strong)
on the National Mall in Washington D.C. for the Beach Boys performances on the Fourth of July back in the early 1980s.

From what I recall ..... a good time was had by all .... I don't care what James Watt said.

I love The Beach Boys music although I didn't see them live until 1989. I had to see them after my musical taste started to change when I saw the movie Cocktails. Yes, I loved the song Kokomo. Hey, John Phillips & Scott Mackenzie wrote it!
I did see them on 7/4/90 at Otis Air Base on the Cape when John Stamos and some guy Brian Wilson actually played that show. (Yes, Paula Abdul was there also).
One of my favorite songs is Sail On Sailor that Goldie sang on the Holland album, Carl did it live, even at the last show he did in Boston 6/21/97 when he looked terrible and the crowd was almost silent. Mike Love actually stopped the show and said something to the effect that yes Carl has been sick and he does appreciate all of the support and the crowd can actually enjoy the show. The place went nuts after that.
Al Jardine left the band in 1961 and went back to college for a couple of years since he didn't think success was going to be in the cards. Carl's friend David Marks was on the first 2-3 albums.
Brian Wilson solo is the best way to hear the Beach Boys stuff now. Dead on musically and Vocals. They seriously sound pretty much like the records. I have seen him a bunch of times. Including when he performed the Smile, Pet Sounds & his newer That Lucky Old Sun album.
Not too many pop bands had that multipal voice, perfect harmony. Beach Boys, Mama's & Papa's & The Fifth Dimension are some of my favorites.
So yes, I am a Beach Boys fan.
