Yes, there will be a pre-event order coming soon.

There are no late-comers and every contribution is more than welcome. Anything you want to burn, draw, color, make out of cocktail napkins will add to the enjoyment of the event.
I want to take a minute to address all of you as well. Sometimes I see references leading me to believe there are those who think this is MY event. It isn't my event it is OUR event. Everything everyone does is more important than anything I do. Please, think of this as OUR effort for OUR troops.
The magnitude of last years success was totally due to Parrot Heads, particulalry those on BN. You always answer the call!

John, your modesty is admirable, but without you
there would be no party for us to get excited about
and support. We probably get as much out of the
event as the attendees, so we thank you, too!

Crash
I have been on the recieving end of MWR and I can't tell you how much it means. I owe everyone in the job, plenty of payback No worries. I will come up with some cds for sure... maybe some other items.
I have contacted the USO to fo find out what is required and the length of time neccessary, costs involved, and whatever else is neccessary for an entertainer to travel to Iraq and elsewhere as well as how one goes about getting a contract.
I should hear back something soon.
I also contacted someone else who I hope will respond as he highly supports our troops. Time will tell. If I hear something positive back, it should provide a nice surprise. If I don't revieve a positive message back, nothing ventured nothing gained.
Has anything ever decided on a "cover letter" where perhaps we could show and get some items as discount?

This would be a great help for people I can not email. When I do email them, I just send this to this topic link to read up and see this is the real deal.

Thanks for the reminder...
Feel free to use the following Backgrounder that summarizes BuffettFest...for just that purpose (and to accompany any press releases, etc.). PM me your email address and I will email you the word document so you can have the formats, pictures, etc. A tailored cover letter to accompany this may then be needed based on what the addressee may provide. (I'll write up a generic letter and post it shortly...or if someone has a letter already written, please post it for others to work from.)
Please...post the contacts you make in this thread so I can include that on p.1...we want to do our best to avoid multiple people contacting the same companies, organizations for discounts and contributions, etc.
FYI, here's the document contents (note, contact info needs to be added):
2006 Anaconda BuffettFest – Background
In September, 2005, the Baghdad BuffettFest was held for US troops in the Green Zone. Over 800 soldiers attended the event aimed at transporting them from their day-to-day responsibilities of serving in a war zone to the mythical oasis, “Margaritaville”*.
John Jackson, KBR MWR (Morale, Welfare, Recreation) Coordinator organized the event with sponsorship, support and contributions from the PHINdy Parrot Head Club, BuffettNews.com members, additional parrot head clubs across the country, and the following: Party City, Corona, Margaritaville Spirits, and Margaritaville Cafes and Stores.
Highlights from the event included:
• The soldier whose friends said BuffettFest was the first time they’d seen him genuinely laugh
• The soldier from New Orleans who’d never missed Mardi Gras until his time in Baghdad. He’d kept beads in his locker for a special occasion…and shared them with his buddies for BuffettFest
• The soldier who called home from BuffettFest saying she and her friends had hesitated to go then agreed to stay only a short while…they were still having great fun more than four hours later
• The soldier who will keep his Margaritaville postcard as a memento of something special and good in a war zone
• The silence of over 800 soldiers watching Jimmy’s video greeting and Jake Shimabukuro play the national anthem…and their subsequent laughter and amazement at experiencing “Fins”.

This year, John Jackson, with the help of many stateside, hopes to recreate the Baghdad BuffettFest enthusiasm and success for an estimated 3,000-6,000 of the 25,000 troops serving at LSA** Anaconda. This BuffettFest will be the major Labor Day Weekend social event for the troops.
Organizations contributing to the 2006 Anaconda BuffettFest will be recognized via press release and public forums. If you have questions or would like further information please contact: XXX at XXX. Thank you for your interest.
* “Margaritaville,” the 1978 hit song by Jimmy Buffett. Parrot Heads (Buffett fans) find Margaritaville any where they want it to be. It’s a place of escape ruled by tropical island-like fun, relaxation, friendship, a bit of Buffett music and lots of smiles.

The Kansas City Parrot Head club wants to donate some items. We're having a fundraising luau on July 8th, and whatever we do not sell from the mini mart, we can donate. We should also be able to come up with more stuff, too. What is the deadline to get things to you?

Great news...thanks!!
Actually, an email went out this morning through the PHIP Leaders' List...it contains all the relevant shipping info...timing (late-July-early-Aug), address, package size, etc. So your club and all the others should have this info in-hand very soon. Just be sure to let me know what's sent so we can get it on the list (p.1) and give Crash a heads up on what's headed his way.
FYI, we'll have you send items directly to Crash (no sense paying twice for shipping).

Is that info going to be posted on here? For those of us that don't belong to a club but are still doing things to help out, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

The Colorado Parrothead Club will have an announcement about this in the next newsletter (tomorrow) with a note that the club will ship all together whatever donations are collected at our next meeting in July - WHOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO
I'm also going to bring postcards for peeps to sign at that meeting - what kind of post cards are y'all doing? Just local ones or are you making special ones?
