You gotta keep on them but they usually pull through...GOOD LUCK!
Are you ready for this?!? I just got off the phone from our Target!
The HR director wasn't sure what to pack up...sooo...are you ready?
Target is donating a $100 giftcard for me to come in and pick out Corona Tshirts/flip flops/ hats...whatever!
OK, put on your thinking caps...best way to spend this??
Crash? Any idea on what you need?
Already mailed out the Karoake CDs....
All of you ask your Target (with Alison's letter)...they may just surprise you.

Actually that's pretty funny Gyron

Maybe we can use it for the water balloon launching.
Great work!!
That gives me another idea....
PHAW or BahamaBreeze, you wouldn't want to maybe...um...get a corporate (home office) contact from Target and see if they'll maybe grant an "exemption/permission" for BuffettFest for stores across the country, would you?? Then if other BNers walk in to their local store in Anywhere, USA they can get the deal?? The event press release has not yet gone out (planned for August 1) so if they agree to this we'll add them as a formal event sponsor...some good PR for them.

And, they could sign and send over a Target banner with greetings to the troops, too.

Just a funny thought on this.....
Do we really want to send something over with a BIG BRIGHT RED TARGET logo to Iraq.......
Ok, sorry, Just my funny thought. Although that is worth a shot. They just might sign up for that one.

Well, the only thing I want to make sure we get is 5 tropical shirts, 5 tropical pants and 5 paif of flip flops for the "Getting Leid" competition. The competition is like this.
There will be 5 teams and 5 different piles of clothes. Each pile contains 1 tropical shirt, 1 short and 1 pair of flip flops. They have to dress one of their team members in those items then begin to cover them with leis from their shoulders to the top of their head. The fun part of the relay is that is they go to a pile needing a tropical shirt and its already been taken, they have to move to the next pile to try and find it.

Here, I'll re-post. It's best on a word document (pictures, format, etc.), so if you want me to email it to you, please PM me your email address.
2006 Anaconda BuffettFest – Background
In September, 2005, the Baghdad BuffettFest was held for US troops in the Green Zone. Nearly 1,000 service men and women attended the event aimed at transporting them from their day-to-day war zone responsibilities to the mythical oasis, “Margaritaville.”*
John Jackson, KBR MWR (Morale, Welfare, Recreation) Coordinator, organized the event with sponsorship, support and contributions from the PHINdy Parrot Head Club, BuffettNews.com members, and additional parrot head clubs across the country. Corporate support was provided by Party City, Corona, Margaritaville Spirits, and Margaritaville Cafes and Stores.
Highlights from last year’s event include:
• The soldier whose friends said BuffettFest was the first time they’d seen him genuinely laugh.
• The soldier from New Orleans who’d never missed Mardi Gras until his time in Baghdad. He’d kept beads in his locker for a special occasion…and shared them with his buddies for BuffettFest.
• The one who called home from BuffettFest saying she and her friends had hesitated to go then agreed to stay only a short while…they were still having great fun more than four hours later.
• The soldier who will keep his Margaritaville postcard as a memento of something special and good in a war zone.
• The captivated silence of 1,000 troops watching Jimmy’s video greeting and Jake Shimabukuro play the national anthem…and their subsequent laughter and amazement at experiencing “Fins.”
Army Bellyflop Team (photo) BuffettFest King (photo)
This year John Jackson, with the help of many stateside, hopes to recreate the Baghdad BuffettFest fun for 6,000 of the 25,000 troops serving at LSA** Anaconda. The 2006 BuffettFest will be the major Labor Day Weekend social event for the troops.
Organizations contributing to the 2006 Anaconda BuffettFest will be recognized via press release and public forums. If you have questions or would like further information please contact:
Put your name here. Thank you for your support.
* “Margaritaville,” the 1978 hit song by Jimmy Buffett. Parrot Heads (Buffett fans) find Margaritaville any where they want it to be. It’s a place of escape ruled by tropical island-like fun, relaxation, friendship, a bit of Buffett music and lots of smiles.

Ohhh...I wanna play! Sounds like fun!
I think from what I have read here, the tropical shirts and flip flops are covered? So I can get some "tropical" swim shorts...or Corona boxers.
What sizes...L/XL?

Here's a letter I took into two local Target stores today. At some stores it's the HR manager and at other stores someone else has responsible for donations. Feel free to use it.
____________
Dear Target Donations Manager:
I have learned through friends of Target’s generous program to provide clearance/sale items to charities and non-profit organizations (including support of our military) at greatly reduced prices or at no charge.
I'm working on a nation-wide effort to put on a “BuffettFest” for our troops serving at LSA Anaconda in Balad, Iraq (see following page background document pasted earlier on this page). The event for 3,000-6,000 will take place Sunday, September 3rd. We are looking to send over summer, tropical, beach, pool, decoration items for the big event and would welcome Target’s donation of any appropriate clearance merchandise.
We are not one formal organization, but a collection of Jimmy Buffett fans (including clubs, groups of friends and individuals) from across the country wanting to do something positive and fun to say thanks to those serving in Iraq. Therefore, we do not have a tax-exempt number or status.
As the event date is approaching, I look forward to hearing from you soon. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
Sincerely,

"crash_davis7" Hey guys. One of the things we wanted to accomplish for BuffettFest this year was getting banners and/or signed banners from clubs and other Buffett entities. If you are planning to send one - we would like to get them by August 15 (mailing by August 4). I am going to have them put up in our MWR center to promote the event and begin generating interest with the troops.
It would be great to have a sea of Parrot Head colors all over the place!
The Hanover Area Parrot Head Society is having a 3' x 3' logo printed. I will have it on the way by Aug. 4.

I just visited my local UPS Store. They are going to donate all of the 24x24x24 boxes I need to pack up goodies donated from my PHC. It might be worth asking at one of these stores for your shippments, each of these boxes retails at over $15.
I should have an inventory to post soon.

Dang, I'm just now reading about this! Now I'm gonna be late in getting things to donate. I'm mailing my check for 2 T-shirts this morning.
I'm printing out a letter to take to the Target near me, and including the BuffettFest logo.
Are there any pictures from last year? I found a link to pictures of the Anaconda complex and someone's room, but not the actual event. But, I did not scroll through 19 pages of posts, so the link may be here somewhere, but if someone can post it again.
Some of us are having a pool party today, and I'll see if I can't get one of our club banners to take over to get signatures.
