Sail on, Floyd Patterson

For you younger people-he was a BOXER.
He was the first person to lose his heavyweight title, and later re-gain it. (Against Ingamar Johanssen in 1958).
He died last night from Alzheimer's Disease.

Oh, man. My grandfather loved Patterson. Sail on, Champion.
Gentilly ... 42 years is a long time to wait .... a Northeast Texas woman can hope.
My love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain.

Before Sonny Liston, and before Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) there was Floyd Patterson. I remember him well from when I was young.

I am a hug boxing fan, esp the heavyweight division although these days that division stinks.

Patterson's last fight was vs. Ali he lost by TKO, he fought Ali twice and was TKO both times. He was considered big for a heavyweight back then 6'0" 220-225. Most heavyweights fought around 200 pounds. He once fought and defended his title vs. Tom McNeely who is the father of Peter McNeely, Mike Tyson's 1st fight after he was released from prison. Although their careers intersected for 3 years he never fought Rocky Marciano, a fight many felt would have been a tough one for Marciano.
