How much do you think is a life altering amount of money to come into?
With a million dollars it would be nice but after taxes I'd probably have enough to either invest and add to my income with the interest or to pay off a house, bills, car, college for kids and then i'd have extra money to live on because all that was paid off.
Real life changing today would requre I think 3mill.

I think about 3M too. 1M would definitely run out in my lifetime.

I'm entirely to much of a spender and would want to take care of too many people to stretch it out like that.
The original question on the Friday Fives was "If you had one million dollars..." but it was too limiting. How sad is that?

Right now, finding a quarter on the sidewalk is a life-improving experience!
I think I could live off the interest of $1 million.

I know. It's sad that the days of a million being a big deal are over. Here in my town you get a condo for $400,000. It's crazy.
I'd love to pay off my siblings mortgages but with a million I couldn't do it.

$3.50.
(That's the price of a cactus margarita at the Cancun Restaurant here).
BUT SERIOUSLY! (???)
A million dollars would definately do it for me. I'd FIND some tax-free investments to put it away in.
(Or I'd be off to Switzerland to open a bank account there).

100,000 would get me out of debt, and greatly reduce my mortgage payments. 150,000 would get me completely free-and-clear. So my income would all be play-money. And that's all I ask for.

Our entire debt is under $100k (no credit cards and the student loans were paid off years ago.)
If invested correctly, 2-4 mil would ensure a couple in their 40s a very nice exsistence in their golden years....
However we could quit our jobs if we won just enough to generate 100k a year income....with the house and car paid off... we would live as comfortably as we do now. And have extra money to boot......

Three million may be life-altering.
Ten million for sure (sher, shoor, shewer)
I have been wondering, though, how much is too much lottery winnings for one person to handle? 100 million?

I remember when were younger and three kids under three. We had our own business and sometimes there were truly rough times. Broke was an understatement. When you are turning over couch cushions to get enough money to buy some bread and peanut butter it's pretty sad. Then $20. could be life changing.

Haven't you heard, "too much of everything is just enough."

Gimmie the biggest Lotto Jackpot in history, and I will give you Jimmy Buffett's Party In Lawrenceburg Tour. It would last 4 months.

I don't know how much is too much.... but 2-5 mil would change our lives with respect to quitting our jobs.... anything over 10 mil I am told I would be in the golf course business.....

There's no such thing as too much money.

This guy won $314 million, and it ruined his life.... (it's a long but interesting article): That's why I think jackpot winners should have to take some kind of class/seminar before they get the money. I know I'D need it!

I wouldn't quibble at any amount....a million would help greatly....I could probably get a start on one of my dreams...but it wouldn't be handed to me on a silver platter.
4 million would probably cause me to stop worrying for quite a length of time.
10 million and if anyone is ever miserable again about anything other then the death of those they love, then no amount of money would be enough for them.
