When was the last time that Jimmy did God's Own Drunk...
at a show? The only one that I can remember was Nissan Pavillion in 2000, but I left due to weather, and missed it. Anybody ever seen him do it?
Like I explain'd to you once before, I ain't no drinkin' man, but temptation got the best of me. I was God's own drunk, and a fearless man.

Makin' the best of whatever comes your way
Forget that blind ambition
And learn to trust your intuition
Plowin' straight ahead come what may.

Not sure why. Maybe just a rumor.

I was surprised when he played it at the sag harbor show in 99, especially after telling the bufford pusser story and not even going into the legal probelm. After his "lawyer and the a**hole" song in the early 80's I always assumed he would never be allowed to play it again. I think the version on Living and Dying is one of his best recordings ever.

I believe Buffett describes Buckley as a "humorist" during the intro to God's Own Drunk on You Had To Be There.

Yep. I was there. I wish he'd do more 'stumpo el bando' type stuff, so we can see some of the rareties JB rarely (if ever) pulls out.Burny Charles wrote:It was a requested song for "stumpo el bando" in 97 in Atlanta. He rattled it off in about 2 minutes without stumbling once. It's pretty helarious.

Buckley is kind of hard to classify. He started out in Vaudeville, and just sort of evolved his own thing over the years.Jahfin wrote:I believe Buffett describes Buckley as a "humorist" during the intro to God's Own Drunk on You Had To Be There.

There's a fairly interesting biography of him, titled Dig Infinity, that is apparently out of print now. I've got a copy. It's a bit disjointed in places, but among other things has the text of a number of his routines.
You can also find info at http://www.lordbuckley.com.
