Just found out we're going the 3rd week of June. Any suggestions on where to stay, where to eat, and what to do? Thanks!

I am inclined to say "go to Savannah or Charleston" but that would be unkind
Seriously, HH is an artsy, touristy place. No doubt great if you are into golf or tennis. IIRC (it's been a few years and I was there briefly) they have a decent beach that's well worth walking.
If you have a car and have some mobility Savannah is an hour / 35 miles away. Go down to River Street (along the river, naturally, and the side of town that you'd be driving into anywho) and find an Irish pub (Kevin Barry's, next to that big hotel on the river, is popular). There are tons of other drinking, eating, and touristy places down on River St. Watch the ships go by because they get in REALLY close to where you are standing. Read a bit of the history of Savannah - quite a bit of the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil characters and places are easily accessible by walking around the squares a bit south of the river.
Have fun, no matter where you go!

Theres a beach front Holiday Inn at Coligny plaza that has a great little
Tiki bar out back. All the places in Coligny are good eats. Just Pasta, and the Fried fish sammich at Hinchey's are always a stop when we're there. The Sea Shack on Executive Drive is the best dive on the Island(if you like fried seafood). Too many high-end places to go into but Park 211 and Wolf Creek Chop House are up on my list. All kind of Beachie stuff to do: Crabing, Sea Kayak in the marsh, Harbor Town, but Tennis and Golf are the main distraction when not on the beach. Hope this help

we were there a month ago. missed seeing jodibug

. stayed in seapines and had a great time. went to harbour town and the salty dog, of course!!!
if you do go to savannah, which we did, take the trolley tour.you must eat at Mrs. Wilk's, but you have to wait in a line.the place closes at 2 and it took us about 45 minutes to get through.
river walk was full of touristy t-shirt shops and candy stores. i wouldn't give it a high rating. it only took us 35 minutes from HH. 236 off island to route 17.
have fun

Well, we've got a condo booked at Fiddler's Cove. I know the Old Oyster Factory is good, so we'll eat there one night. Has anybody eaten at the Crazy Crab? Is it good? I think we may try to hit up the bar at Salty Dogs for happy hour one afternoon. Any other good places for happy hour? Any other "no-miss" restaraunts to try? Where is the best place for Putt-Putt and shopping?

Heading away from the beaches there are a lot of outlets. I will second Pirate John's advice about Savannah and Charleston. Both are worth at least a day trip.

I went there on my honeymoon in '86, just before heading to the Shenandoah Mtns of Virginia.
We stayed at the Mariner's Inn, which is no longer there.
We were celebrating our 20th anniversary the week you posted this. Happy 30th to you!

I thoroughly enjoyed my week in Hilton Head last week...and made it out just before the wrath of Alberto. We stayed in a house on the beach in Sea Pines and the beach was wonderful...very few people compared to areas like the beach club. And dang is that water warm, I'll never swim in the Pacific again!
We ate at Crazy Crab in Harbor Town for my birthday...and it was crazy! It is a VERY kid friendly place, so it is loud and crowded...but we had a great time and the food was delish. I highly recommend the she crab soup and the steamer pot (the one with lobster, crab legs, shrimp, oysters etc).
The only shopping we did was in Harbor Town and it ranges from touristy to overpriced resort type stuff. I did pick up a couple tshirts tho. I'm bummed that I didn't get the long sleeved t shirt from Crazy Crab...I love long sleeved Ts and they are hard to come by.
My recommendation is to definitely rent bikes. It is a great place to ride around, although you will have a lot of company. We rode thru the golf course in search of alligators and I wish I had ridden thru the forest preserve instead of driven. Good riding on the beaches, too.
We spent a couple days in SAV too. As much as I liked it, I'll never go back in summer. Too stinkin hot.
Have a great time!

Even after all the stuff that's gone on with them in FL this year? I used to walk around lagoons looking for them, but I'm a little more leary now.
We do usually take bikes, but we're gonna just rent them this time. I'm trying to figure out the best place to rent them from.
Thanks for the advice!

There are a gazillion places to rent from, I bet the company you're renting the condo from has a regular place they use. I found out from a gal on the plane that if you rent via the internet ahead of time you can get a discount...something to file away for future reference. That way they are there waiting for you when you get there.
And I wasn't worried about the gators in the golf course so much...with all the people around they'd be pretty well noticed. The forest preserve was another story...definitely had my eyes and ears open and peeled. I'm a birder so I'm constantly on the lookout for things on the ground as well as in the trees.

Just got back from Hilton Head this afternoon. Overall, we had alot of fun. We ate well, had tremendous weather, a nice place, etc. The bummer was that got an incredibly violent stomach virus on Thursday and was sicker than I've ever been in my life. I'm still kind of recouping. I'll update you on our activities when I have more time. Thanks for all that recommendations, guys! Its a great place!
