EBAY-credit card warning

I thought my case was isolated until my coworker came in today and told me the same thing happened to her.

When I verified my identity on Ebay, I used my bankcard. This was a few years ago and I haven't used it on the web since, now I only use credit cards. My number was stolen and used in Romania for a p*** site. I know that it was definitely Ebay because that was the only time I had used that card in that time period. Same with my coworker. Hers is being used in Canada and Australia. I only lost a few hundred $, she's lost $2k! Eventually you get it back, but it takes forever, because it is actual cash gone.

I did make Ebay aware through a live chat session and the person kept saying it's secure, etc. Just wanted to let everyone here know if you verify your identity on Ebay, definitely watch your credit card account! And never use a bankcard online!

NEVER, EVER...EVer...ever for any reason veify your credit card, or any other information online at Ebay or anywhere else, such as Paypal.....such as verifying your identity.

I've been using Ebary since 1999 and they will never, ever, for any reason have you confirm any secure information online....

you will get spoof emails asking you to do this, DON'T.....I recently started using my Paypal account again after almost daily spoof emails.... and after only one purchase I got a spoof email wanting me to confirm private information...

If you get ANY email from EBay or Paypal, it will open with the NAME that you registered with and will tell you to log on to you account...there will NOT be a link for you to click on to get there....this is where it all starts...

Never click on a link that would be in an email that looks like it's from EBay or Paypal....and they will look exactly like they are from EBay or Paypal.

Both sites have excellent information telling you what to look for to avoid being spoofed or phished...and what to do if you get one of these emails...if it doesn't contain your registered name, go no further, follow the instructions they tell you to do....NEVER open the linkk that's provided in the email....

It was not an email. It was years ago when I did it, but I remember I had to to it. I think it may have been to sell. This is the link now; back then you had to use a credit card, there was not $5 fee option.

I've never used EBay as a seller....perhaps your credit card was in some of the thefts or errors that have occured in credit card processing companies..

I'm not saying that it couldn't be Ebay...Paypal and Ebay both have some very strict guidelines to keep your information secure....

I've had credit cards stolen, it's a big hassle...

Hope it turns out well, for you, and your friend

One thing I can tell you do is report them.
I never open any suspicious mail...... If you use other than Outlook Express you will have to find out how to get your FULL HEADER Information that is on the ORIGINAL email you recieved from the sender.
(This can be spoofed.)
anyway when you get such an email DO NOT OPEN it. ESPECIALLY IF IT HAS AN ATTACHMENT!!!

Right click on the email
Left click Properties
Left click Details
Left click Message Source.

(Now you see a lot of things. You read a header "backwards". Start at the top and read down until you to From: This is the orignator and IP # of the sender. and other stuff. )

Anyway Highlight EVERYTHING INSIDE and copy it. That is the full header and content of the email.
Go back to the orinal email and clik Forward
paste the FULL HEADER onto that email.

Now depending on who it is from depends on where you send it to.

E-bay, PayPal, whoever have their own places to send it to.

Also you can report it to the Federal Trade Commission. Just address the letter to both of them. click send.
To find the appropriate addresses contact Ebay/Paypal....
You can search and find where to report Fraud at the FTC website.
You may want to report it to your server as well.

I get this one at one of my old AOL addresses all the time. Even though the message doesn't seem to make much sense. their HTML is identical to a normal eBay page. Probably sucks a lot of naive people in... :-?

Dear eBay Member!rnrnHereby we would like to inform you that we provided the constant examination of your billing information and as a result a small error was found. This card can serve only as identification one and the charge at anytime is impracticable. By means of this way of identification there is always a safe place in eBay for any purchase to be made and the check of client's billing information is held. It is necessary to have debit or credit card to set up a seller's account. when the automatic payment takes place the credit card is charged within 5-7 days since the moment of invoice receipt. Verify this data and take into consideration that your account can be invalidated in case of non-payers and you can be resposible for costs collecting.rnrnClick here to enter the page of confirmationrnrnBe sure it is important to mind this issue. Although it could seem to be a little inconvenient we do it only for your data and account protection. The only purpose is to provide secure storing of your account.
