In any event, this was the first and last time I will visit this amphitheater for any event (JB or no JB). Over-priced food and beverages with a poor selection at that (by the way, where was the wine that Verizon says on the website is available at this venue?), under-helpful staff , and did they really need to check my ID every time I bought a drink (I am 52 and look it!). And out in the middle of no where. (Last year was so nice where it was possible to walk from hotel to venue - no DWI's!) For all the money it takes to fund a trip to a JB concert these days, the folks who choose where he will play should be more considerate of his fans. There's my 2 cents worth....
Well Lindasue, many prefer outdoor venues...even with the weather risk. And, apparently Jimmy prefers to play sheds, as well. The other venue issues you mention don't have anything to do with the weather...the same things can happen at an indoor place.

It just sounds like you're looking for a more controlled, predictable, dependable atmosphere...and it's hard to get this at a large concert venue these days. So, you can choose to go or not to go...but having realistic expectations is key to enjoying almost anything.

I concur completely. It never ceases to amaze me how different people can have totally different experiences at the same place and time. Many of us, myself included, have been waiting for years to be able to see Jimmy at an outdoor venue in the Carolinas.

The Charlotte show last night was nothing but pure magic, in my eyes. From the beginning of the day at noon until the final push out of the parking lot (we were back at our hotel in 20 minutes), the entire experience was completely beyond expectations, which were pretty high to begin with! My hubby and I encountered only warm, friendly staff members throughout the venue. People were allowed to party to their hearts content with absolutely no hassles. I can't say enough about the dozens of wonderful fellow BNers who I met this weekend, and the show?........I don't think that Jimmy and the Coral Reefers have ever sounded better. They pulled so much energy from the audience who were, obviously, having the time of their lives. I cried 3 times during the show......pure joy. Far and away the best show I've attended!

Perceptions?.......I like mine! It was a weekend and a concert experience my hubby and I will never forget! :D

Thanks for your thoughts. But I have been to many concerts over the years, most of them JB concerts, starting in late 70's so I feel that I can compare venues and that some venues are just better than others. To suggest that a venue is a venue is a venue and that fans who complain are just not tolerant enough is playing into hands of people who run these places and who see no reason to change or improve their venues.

One example - last night, at end of concert, in the pouring rain I asked several employees located at exit where the taxis were - could not find any. Do you think that any of them knew? Or volunteered to find out? I was not drunk nor a rude patron so I expected some help in the situation. Isn't that their job? Is it too much to expect some expertise in the area of public transportation? A small matter, but annoying and illustrative...

(Granted, some people create trouble for the rest of us by getting so out of control drunk at these gatherings that venue operators treat us JB fans with little respect - hence, the "storm tropper" attitude of some of the employees last night... but I doubt that JB fans are the only ones who exhibit such behavior.)

You are right when you say that I want a venue that is more controlled and predictable. But why is that bad? Why is it that the more horrible your story about your visit to a JB concert, the more authentic a parrothead you are?

My position is that the people who work for JB and who schedule these events might want to invest a little time in determining what venues give ticket holders the best (fairest?) value for their money, esp. if ticket prices continue to escalate.

I have to be honest, this type of mocking attitude is ridiculous. It was a nice show tonight by Jimmy as they all are, but it was nothing special.
It was very special to me. There were many songs that made it more than just nice in my opinion.

Coastal Confessions
Coast of Carolina
Nautical Wheelers
Knees of My Heart
School Boy Heart
The video Here We Are which we could hear on RM
Plus, Jimmy made a lot of little comments about past shows and had some pretty fun chit chat going on.
A+++++ Jimmy

Its funny.....I talked to jaybirdbuc and curvin last night...they talked about how GREAT the Charlotte venue was and how much better it was (venue wise) then Atlanta....they just said they wished some of the atlanta pholks had been at Charlotte.....

I'm sure they will post in here sooner or later....

And I have been to MANY shows at that venue before.....its a clean nice place....

and I would rather see a concert (any concert) in the rain...then inside....but thats my personal taste...i just think concerts are better in ampitheaters built for music then in coliseums built for basketball, hockey, etc....

Thanks sunseeker!!!

I am back home safe and sound, need to take a nap so I will post a recap of charlotte probably tomorrow. I said last night that this show would make my top 5, but this morning I said it would make the top 3. It truly was awesome. Jimmy was on fire and I still cannot believe it!!! Yes it rained and it rained worse than Atlanta. This venue is incredible, I am surprised anyone would have complaints about it, after the Atlanta fiasco this was a welcome site.

All employees were helpful to us, we parked in the front, less than 100 yards from the gate. And get this, it took us less than 30 seconds to walk thru the gate, yes less than 30 seconds. This venue was very clean, better sound, better lawn and better fans. (no a-holes to deal with) Kirven and I truly had a great time. It took less than 30 minutes to leave, they had multiple lanes open and lots of traffic police, it just made the Atlanta venue look worse and worse.

I have seen Jimmy indoors and out, I froze in the pouring rain last night, but it was truly magical. I would not trade that concert for indoors anyday. It was a wonderful time had by all.

I will post a full recap with pics later!!! Thanks to sunseeker for taking our calls, we had fun!!! The dawgpound was missed, but we did our best to represent the party!!!

For all those who hated and are complaining about the show, next year when tix go on sale, please don't buy any and save them for real JB fans. When you buy your tickets you know the risk of rain, and you should know how much things cost inside. That is why you tailgate before hand. I would much rather see a show there than pay $100 for a seat up in the rafters at Bobcats arena where the sound is terrible plus the neighborhood is bad, and limited tailgating spots. Just my two cents!

The parking lot scene in Charlotte was awesome. And the best part was no body had to pay to park. I was really expecting a $10 charge to park.

It was a very bad show!

Only because I could not be there.

Then It may have been better than the "Big Show in the ATL Dawgfan Dawg Pound"

I doubt it though.

Of course I would have met a monkey there.

Bubba Phan, u were dry last night

Seriously, it was another fun show. After 8 hours of dry tail-gaiting (with a great group on BN'ers :pirate: :wench: ), the rain showed up right at 8:15 as Jimmy came on and it rained until about 30 minutes after the show ended. I talked to others in other parts of Charlotte who were suprised it rained at the concert.

Just one of those deals, but the lawn was as packed as ever at Verizon and surprisingly 90% of the fans on the lawn stayed until the encores.

Even though the rain was picking up again, I was glad the JB played the "Here We are Video" (you can only get so wet)

Linda Sue, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I won't belittle your thoughts. However, that's part of the allure of Buffett. We all get to choose how we deal with what life throws at us, and I was glad to see most of the crowd making the most of it. In today's world, as adults we just don't get to play in the rain often enough!

Weathermen   ---Everything else 8) 8) 8)
Like someone posted earlier, we're lucky to have JB in the Carolina's each year, and we listened to 29 songs last night, which is about 3 more than the average this year!

oh and AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!! :pirate:

Oh, and by the way, I didn't spend any money on food or beverages. I ate and consumed enough in the parking lot (gates did open at 12) and didn't want to miss the show in the food or drink lines.

In fact, Thank You Verizon Management--except for the rent a cop who made us circle to get into the Premiere Parking lot at 12:10 instead of noon, The $20 for Premiere Parking was worth it. Unlike previous shows, the tailgate was allowed to happen, and we were able to enter the VIP entrance (with lawn tix) in one minute (20 minutes b4 the show) and port-a-johns were 100 feet away Despite a very soggy lot, I drove by the venue today and the lot was clean (except for some mysterious sand spots throught the parking lot)
VZ is not my favorite venue and $9 for a 24oz beer is expensive, but the management was more than hospitable to Parrotheads.
