How can you support the troops and not THE MISSION, THE OBJECTIVES, AND THE GOALS...ie WHAT THE TROOPS ARE SUPPOSED TO ACCOMPLISH?
Why don't you try explaining that to every troop???
As to why we are in Iraq, I have explained that elsewhere. Poorly
As for our troops going in without this or that...blame Congress....they decide what the military can have. America has come from behind in almost every if not every war.
It's very simple (which should work best for you) I don't support the moron who sent them there but I do support them for what they do since they have no choice but to stay. I'm sure most would leave today if given the choice.
So if it is so simple,...(no doubt, apparently that is all you know), explains a lot.
If you are so sure most would want to leave without finishing or completing their mission or job.....how many have you talked with or asked or heard from?
What makes you so sure?
I will grant that they would rather be someplace else, but that goes along with troops all over the place wanting/ "...wishing to be somewhere else, other than here...."

See if you can find them. Because nobody has ever shown a conclusive link, let alone a conspiracy, between the Al-qaeda terrorists who attacked the United States and the regime of Saddam Hussein.
Remember, we didn't go into Iraq to stop terrorists. We went there to stop weapons of mass destruction. Shortly before he got his walking papers, Colin Powell stood before the UN and swore to the whole world that it was true. Now that there are no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, we can't leave because of all the terrorists there.
Good work, Shrub.
Something you are leaving out, is around that time, the vast MAJORITY of the REST of the WORLD LEADERS , believed Saddam had the WMDs as well.
So you tell us where you would fight the war on terror? Would you send them a nice little RSVP card invited them to a place for tea and scones or crumpets to be killed by the US Military's Finest?
Where would you fight the terrorists? In Iraq or in the States? You want to fuss more about how we got there, or are you more concerned about winning the war on terror and getting our troops home?

As most folks who despise the Dixie Chicks for their politics probably don't know (because it wasn't as widely reported in the media at the time), they also expressed 100% support for the troops.
It seems that the rest of the country is playing catch up because as the recent poll suggests, folks do support the troops, but don't support the action in Iraq.
You may think that's right or wrong or worth a death threat, but you are apparently now in the minority.
Hate the Dixie Chicks all you want, take your kids out to "Dixie Chicks Destruction" days and destroy their CDs, make fun of their looks and sound.
Personally, I like strong, intelligent, independent women willing to take a public stand on a controversial issue, knowing full well that as performers (in a conservative country music industry) their livelihood was on the line. Say what you will - I think they've got more grit and guts than many men and women in this country.
I don't give a hoot about the Dixie Chicks or their political beliefs. If I want to hear preaching I'll go to church (which I do), if I want to hear political statements I'll go to a rally and if I want to hear good music, well I'll pop in a Buffett cd
Of course the real issue here is your avatar. BLECH!

There's a fine line between being [perceived as] a strong, intelligent, idependent woman.....and being perceived as a loud mouthed *itch.
I think for a lot of folks there IS NO fine line - in other words any time a woman gets up and says what's on her mind (or voices an uncomfortable truth) she is labelled a LMB. We seem to expect it from men, but get seriously bent out of shape when it comes from women (whose job is to look pretty and "shut up and sing!").
I'm ashamed to say I was many decades into my adulthood as a man before I realized just how many different ways our society devalues what women do and what they have to say.

Do you think it is only women it happens to? Look around in here....It happens to everyone.
As Auntie said theire is a fine line between the two women
You still have not answered any of the questions I have asked.
Considering the person in your advatar and how that person "creatively edits" what he wants to be true and throws out what they said and only shows one side and one view and overlooks anything and everything that is contradictory ....

I dunno flyboy...you've got a lot of misconceptions about a lot of things...
this one is sooo far out there...I gotta refer back to Bumper's reply this morning..

Fixed it for ya. I think in your many edits you confused someone else's remarks with mine.
Regardless of our feelings toward each other or the subject matter, would appreciate if we refrain from using phrases such as this:
"It's very simple (which should work best for you)...."
Thanks.
My love is staying an anchor tied to you with that silver chain.
Flyboy,
Are you going to ignore my questions or are you going to answer them?
Are you ignoring and not answering because you have no answer? If you have no answer then why do you continue this useless attack?
Auntie,
I thank you!
I would offer you a VERY LARGE margarita your choice on the rocks or blendered, and salt or no salt,....however I am afraid you would think I was just trying to get you drunk and take advantage of you and then you would get mad at me and proceed to cause severe bodily harm upon my person. OH BLEEP I will take the risk and offer you SEVERAL VERY LARGE MARGARITAS made just for you as you would like them made. Just don't allow anyone to be smoking within 100 feet of them. O K ? From the BBC:
"A concert industry magazine claimed shows had been dropped in Republican states such as Oklahoma and Tennessee. "
That hardly comes as a shocker, they still burn books in those places.
I support the troops. My young second cousin is now a Marine.
They are doing the job that their Commander in Chief has directed.
I feel terrible for each life lost over there (but I have no problem with Zarqawi's demise)
I haven't supported the mission because of its' political assumptions (failures) and its profiteering sources (Bush & Co.).
History will judge whether this has been "worth it"
I don't know about Tennesse...but having spend most of my life in Oklahoma...They don't burn books in Oklahoma...and I seriously doubt they do in Tennessee either..
I, personally take this as an insult and I might you suggest you retrack that statement...I highly suggest it....
Your statement has no basis and why would you slam two states you've proabably never been in..or if you have...you know nothing about...
Don't be Ignorant...
I'll correct my statement...
In what is akin to book-burning, protestors are burning and destroying Dixie Chicks CD's. They have in Texas and other Southern states...
Forgive me for lumping neighboring state Oklahoma in with intolerance, censorship, and narrow-mindedness. I must of been thinking of some extremists in some other southern state.
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!
Blah blah blah, freedom of speech, heard of it. Sure, Natalie and Springsteen and whoever wants to say whatever can. But when payig fans(not me I think they sucked long before her stupid ignorant comments), want to tell her she can shove it that's wrong.
Books were burned to censor, her cd's were burned to make a point. Shut up and sing your damn music.
Proud to be from a state that burned her music and ran it over w/ a tractor.
Threads like this are very interesting. Why because it show the DIFFERENCE of OPINION that makes up the members of Buffett News!
What It also shows is the Polarization that has happened in this country!
Since the Republicans won the Trilogy, it has become open season on anyone who differs with the Admistration. Questioning their Support of the troops, whether they are true Americans, or your Patriotism and the like!
The enviroment in this country sucks! Why because this country was founded on the exact Ideals that if I differ, I have the RIGHT to MY Opinion! But the conservatives obviously don't believe that !
I am NOT a fan of the Dixie Chicks, but whatever her name is, is NOT A LMB! She is an American with the right to voice her opinion . Even if you or I don't like it! Surprise.....FREEDOM of Speech!
Exactly the same way SAM, or Moonie , Or Auntie or anyone else, have a right to their opinion.
I was hurt by 9/11, everyone in this country was, but Saddam Hussien didn't fly those planes into the WTC. It was 19 Terrorist! 14 of which , I believe were from Jordan. So why didn't we invade Jordan?
We didn't invade Jordon because "right now" they are our "friends". The same way Osama was our "friend" because he was fighting our enemies( The Russians remember them?)! Sometimes those "friends" have a way of coming back to bite us on the ARSE!
The President, within days of 9/11 ask the intelligence people to see if they could find a tie in to Iraq. WHY? Because Our President wanted to go into Iraq and finish what his Father didn't! ( My Opinion)
Surprise!, you CAN support the troops and NOT the War! You can support the troops to be HOME and Not in some country in the Middle East. Fighting a war that has evolved into what is tantamount a civil war!
( Flashbacks of Korea and Vietnam)
What did the troops fighting and dying there accomplish? NOTHING!, once they were divided and they still are divided!
Yes, I support the troops. I support them to come Home and be safe and with their families. Instead of dying in some God forsaken country, for a "no cause" cause!
That is the reason why this Administration's ratings are in the Toilet!
Because people have finally come to the realization that Our President lied to us and that we should NEVER gotten into this war to start with!
Finally, being passionate is wonderful, but please try to respect other people's opinions, even if you disagree! The person has the right and I might even say the obligation to disagree with Our Goverment and Leaders, when they feel they are wrong!
What's interesting is Mrs. 216 and I differ on these same opinions. So when we vote ....we cancel each others vote out!
BUFFETTING: The act of leaving reality and going off to see Jimmy Buffett!

We were attacked by an organization of terrorists..not individuals who just happened to be hangin out on the same street corner. The boundaries between al-queda and many of the middle east countries has generally been a fluid one.

and exactly how have you been punished for speaking your opinion? what rights have taken away from you?....Make sure I understand....you offer your opinion....a "conservative" offers a response and somehow that is an infringement on your right to free speech?
And you actually believe libs don't counter when their idiology is confronted?...we've been through this before..Dixie Chicks have the right to speak up..others have the right to respond by boycotting, trashing their cd's or whatever non violent method used to express their opinion. Using a pejorative to describe our president while banking some cash in another country is bad taste and displayed poor judgement...I know this how? because Natalie Maines acknowledged same in an apology. Understanding our country was founded on conflict and discourse followed by resolution is one of the cornerstones of living in this great nation. Simple really..aint it?
-------------------------------------------------------- There is no place like Cabo in the winter
and the entire Southern half of the United States.., of which I know NOW, he knows nothing about any of them...
whether or not anyone likes the Dixie Chicks or not, insulting an entire State with his comments was uncalled for and illrevelant ....
he equated destroying their CD's with book burning...
HE needs to apologize to the entire board...esp. those living in the above mentioned states.. before a lynching takes place...J/K...(except for maybe Texas) even I wouldn't mess with Texas..... .
This thread has remained relatively civil until Lightening Bolt decided to instult the Southern half of the United States, completely unwarranted...those links could have been posted and even comments from him with taking a dig at Oklahoma or any other state, but especially since Oklahoma had nothing to do with it...
He obviously doesn't have a clue as to the loyalty someone feels for their home state....?
