She Ain't Ready to Make Nice (and I don't blame her)

This recent poll suggests that folks DO support the troops, but NOT the war. How is this possible?

I've always been told that AGAINST WAR = AGAINST TROOPS.

A majority (63%) of those polled (that would be more than 50% for the math-challenged among us) feel that U.S. troops killing civilians in Iraq is isolated, and in general the troops are doing a good job.

However, 59% of these same folks now feel the war in Iraq was a mistake, up from 34% in December 2004.

Of course, Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Marty McGuire (aka The Dixie Chicks) have consistently opposed the war AND supported the troops since before there was a war.

Listen to their new single Not Ready to Make Nice.

I wonder if President Bush will be getting the new Dixie Chicks album, Taking the Long Way, for Fathers Day?

for starters the troops don't decide to start a war or not.

only congress can declare war, a duty it has faithfully shirked since Dec 11, 1941. the president as commander-in-chief is utimately responsible for how the war is conducted and it's outcome. the troops are obligated to follow lawful orders given by a superior.

don't blame the troops if you don't like the orders given them.

It's very possible. It's not the troops fault their leaders are idiots and, other then the ones that have committed cold-blooded murder (not just caused the deaths of enemy combatants), they shouldn’t be held accountable or vilified for it, as well as being given the equipment needed to fulfill their orders as safely as possible.

I have nothing against the military…I have everything against this war and the person that started it.

Not a former fan…never have been a fan. I really don’t like very much country music at all.

However, when all this hit, Ron and I joked that we should go out and buy one of their CDs just to be supportive. We never did though.

They can’t be too bad…their latest was number one for two weeks now I think.

I'm not a Dixie Chicks fan however I said before we invaded Iraq that this was the wrong time and wrong place and most importantly the wrong President. Now that we are in Iraq, I think we have to give the troops the equipment, the tools, the support and lots of manpower in order to accomplish the mission of staying alive and restoring order to Iraq. I'm afraid that the idea that one cannot support the troops without approving of the "war" (Congress has yet to declare a war and therefore all those who voted in favor of the resolution to authorize force should be tossed out of office for failing to do their job) is false.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

OH PUH-LEEEEZE!!!!
How can you support the troops and not THE MISSION, THE OBJECTIVES, AND THE GOALS...ie WHAT THE TROOPS ARE SUPPOSED TO ACCOMPLISH?

Why don't you try explaining that to every troop???
As to why we are in Iraq, I have explained that elsewhere.

As for our troops going in without this or that...blame Congress....they decide what the military can have. America has come from behind in almost every if not every war.

From the BBC:
"A concert industry magazine claimed shows had been dropped in Republican states such as Oklahoma and Tennessee. "

That hardly comes as a shocker, they still burn books in those places.

I support the troops. My young second cousin is now a Marine.
They are doing the job that their Commander in Chief has directed.
I feel terrible for each life lost over there (but I have no problem with Zarqawi's demise)
I haven't supported the mission because of its' political assumptions (failures) and its profiteering sources (Bush & Co.).

History will judge whether this has been "worth it"

The concerts in St. Louis, Indy and other cities aren't selling all that well either...
St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote:But Billboard.com says tickets sales for the group’s upcoming tour are lower than anticipated, so some shows will be postponed or canceled.

The group was scheduled to perform Aug. 22 at Savvis Center, but the tickets didn’t go on sale as scheduled. Ticketmaster’s Web site lists the show as postponed.

9news.com wrote:"I think before it's said and done the entire tour will be, at the very least, reorganized," Ray Waddell, senior editor of touring for Billboard magazine, said Friday.

Shows in cities including St. Louis, Houston, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City and Memphis, Tenn., are up in the air.

Ticket counts for the 20-plus arena shows that went on sale last weekend were averaging 5,000 to 6,000 per show in major markets and less in smaller cities, Waddell said.

The group's Web site listed 12 dates in which public ticket sales were still to be announced - a sign that pre-sale tickets to fan clubs were weak in those markets. Organizers use pre-sales as a barometer of public interest, and if they are slow, often will postpone or pull the plug on public sales.
