What's the least amount

Post by OceanCityGirl »

of gasoline you've purchased? When we were really broke and young mr oc and I have scraped pennies for gas. He was willing to put any amount in and I wouldn't go under $5. Now I don't like to put in less then $20. but today I put in 5. and felt really stupid. 1.7 gallons. In the mustang that's not much. But I went to the store and only had a $20 on me and didn't want to turn around and go back off the island again. I didn't realize somebody had left me on EEEEE.

I've gotten $5.00...lots of times...I think maybe $3 or even $2..when gas was much less..

reason being the place didn't take checks ..and that was all the cash I had..needed gas to get to the bank..

and like you..sometimes running short on $$...

in the olden days, i've put in $1 or $2.

occasionally i'll do $5 from a gas station near my house to get me by 'til i can fill up all the way where we like to buy gas (where it's cheaper).

I've pumped a dime in at every place in town, half of them didn't make me pay. So that was like 90 cents of free gas back in the day that wasn't too bad.

When I got my license gas was $0.29/gallon. I remember getting $1 a lot of times.

One of my childhood memories was of my sister searching one of her "Bic disposible cars" at a station for change to get gas. She could only find 23 cents. Yep. She got 23 cents worth of gas. My sister is a nut.

My bike holds 3.3 gallons - if I'm topping off, it's not uncommon for me to put in $3, even at today's prices.

Back in high school, when gas was only about a buck a gallon, I'd put 2-3 bucks on a regular basis... now, I probably won't go less than $10, which comes out to about 3 gallons....

When I was in hs during the early 80's gas jumped up alot. There were some people I knew who specialized in siphoning gas. Popular places were school bus lots, delivery trucks, and the neighborhoods where people liked to keep their tanks full.

When I had my civic like a year ago, I'd do $1. It'd get me around for a while. If I'm really on E and there's only expensive gas around I'll only put $2 or $3 in til I can get somewhere where it's cheaper.

In HS, my Dad's rule, if you take the car, put at least a buck into it when you are done. I have done 50 cents back in the 70's,
"Boat drinks, waitress we........nevermind"

that area still doesn't smell real good..but not like it did..the catalytic converters are all down, I think...everything has changed so..except for that smell...

Me too. I think it was something like .27 cents per gallon for regular and .32 cents for premium.
I remember driving my mother's 1967 Lincoln Continental, I think it had a 401 V-8 engine with an overhead cam, and filling it up from empty for $5.00.

These days gas in the Iowa City/Coralville area is $2.84 per gallon,
and in Cedar Rapids (25 miles away), it's $2.67 per gallon, so whenever I'm in Cedar Rapids (usually several times per week), I top off my gas tank no matter how full it is.
Of course, whenever I go to Wal Mart and use my Wal Mart gas card, I pay .10 cents per gallon less than the commoners.
