Summer Solstice

The Sun now exerts its maximum power upon our part of the Earth as its rays strike us head-on. The time of full outward physical manifestation is here. The powers of inner contemplation are at their lowest point, and everywhere are the energies of "doing," of exerting the will.

The Sun moves from Gemini into Cancer, signaling the point of Solstice, of highest solar energy for this year. This was the ancient time of celebration, of outward joy in the fullness of life, the richness of our worldly blessings.

It's also the birthday of a multitude of folks I know,
including hubby and his twin brother. Yes, there are two of them.
Think the solstice sucks babies out like low pressure fronts?

"Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it."
A quote from one of my favorite books. Who can recognize it?

There were a bunch of people outside Good Morning America, the Fox News Channel and the Today Show this morning. It was some kind of summer solstice promotion - they were all wearing matching light blue t-shirts and chef hats and holding up signs. One of the signs said AMERICA LOVES PIE. The t-shirts all had a picture of a slice of pie on them.

The Great Gatsby, F. Scot Fitzgerald?
yep that's funny. You remember a single line from a movie. I"ve read the book more then a couple times that's why I remember that line.

I thought it was one of Mia Farrow's better roles she's played..she seemed to fit the part well, I'd read the book long before the movie version...

I think it was on one of the movie channels just the other day...I usually try to watch it...

Happy Summer Solstice!

To celebrate we're packing a picnic dinner, some good wine and taking the canoe out on the lake to watch the sun set 8)

Color me jealous. That sounds like great fun. :D 8)

My best summer solstice memory: Going out for a summer solstice sunset paddle with the Orcas...mind you that sunset was between 11pm and midnight way up there. It was magical...the sky was lavender, then purple...the orcas were feeding and frolicking (and occasionally bumping the kayaks) and I was with a group of friends who had become as close as family in a very short period of time (almost losing your life while paddling at night in a rainstorm will do that).

Wish I could go back tonight and do it all over again...sigh.....
