I'm not entirely sure what program he uses, though. I'm forbidden to play with it, it's 'his baby'.
A friend of mine did that. He didn't want to pay for DVR service or for a DVR. He got a video card for an old computer and now has a 120Gb home made DVR.

is the computer case covered in Transformer decals?
Not that computer. That one is the red headed stepchild of all of our computers. It gets beaten regularly because the fan on the video card keeps making noise and he won't replace it.
But his main computer does have an autobot logo on it

mine did that for a while too. Then I would touch the box to drain out any static charge, and tap the fan on the card. It stopped. On the safe side, I have a fan card running next to the graphics card tho

It's really worth it. He was all excited when he set it up, and I thought 'what in the world will we actually burn off'. Surprisingly, it's come in really handy. I have shelves full of cooking shows I wouldn't normally be able to buy or get, and he burns off all kinds of stuff to watch while we're on road trips, plane trips, while I was in the hospital, at work, etc.

You can get them on sale quite cheap anymore. I got one for my business comp for 39.99 last black friday. I think the dual layer ones aren't much more than that anymore.

I used to get that package from DirecTV, and once from DishNetwork too. I'll tell ya, you end up watching pay-per-view movies all the time. Which eventually stops you from watching HBO and the like, because you've seen all the movies before they get there.
Of course you can't watch The Sopranos or any other premium channel program on pay-per-view, so it's nice to still have HBO.
When I had that deal from DirecTV or Dish it wasn't $7500 a year though.
You already know I'm a pirate, right? just by being here? Those were the days.
