Bored at work, I was perusing the factoids for the first "Pirates Of The Caribbean" movie, and came across this one...

"Jimmy Buffett was offered a role as a pirate, but had to decline due to previous engagements"

...and I don't know, but it seems like it would have been the perfect role for him!

Maybe he was bored with the idea. He already got to play a pirate in the movie Hook. Or maybe he just didn't want to be referred to as Pirate #3 again.

While it may seem Buffett would be well suited for the role of a pirate I think his talents would be better put to use behind the scenes as a screenplay writer. From what little I've seen of his acting, it doesn't really appear to be his forte.

As for his "role" in Hook it apparently amounts to little more than a very brief cameo. I, for one, I have never been able to spot him in that movie or in the cult classic Repo Man where he's billed as a "Blonde Agent".

I didn't realize he had a cameo in Hook. We actually just picked that up on DVD as I had never seen it before. The kids just love the movie. I'll have to keep an eye out.

On a similar note, I picked up Elmopalooza last night!

Heck, I had no idea he was in Repo Man. Used to watch that in college ALL the time.

If you want to catch him in Hook, the DVD is
probably about the only way. He's supposed
to be the "shoe stealing pirate" that apprears
for about 1/2 second just as Peter Panning
gets to Hook's ship (if that is actually him).
I hope he enjoyed all the hassle he went
through for that fleeting appearance.

And I have to agree with Jah... acting is not
our esteemed leader's best use of talent.
