eww eww eww okra. When I was a kid once my mother bought a big bushel of okra and we had it in some form for every meal for eternity. Then she froze some for the winter.

You've never had pickled okra until now?

I've grown, picked, and pickled many pods of okra ( in OK)...even added some jalapenoe(s) that I grew before I sealed the jar..

I don't remember life without okra...LOL...

I prefer it fried, and not the store bought frozen kind.

I was never forced to eat anything..and because we raised it mostly ourselves...it wasn't like I was wasting food bought with hard earned money...as far as veggies are concerned..(esp asparagus)

another reason I would never touch cottage cheese...ever..

I think pickled okra is a better garnish for bloody marys than celery.

Grew up on it..and still eat it at least once a week.. 8)

To this day, I still remember the nights my mother served this for dinner, it was always the longest dinner sometimes lasting 3hrs, what made it worst was that my younger brother actually ate it :o while my other brothers and I just stared at it :D Things were really tight in our house so my mother didn't believe in wasting food.

I reserved him oatmeal for two meals. He never did eat it and made himself puke. I felt terrible and made him something he liked. So guess who won that war. I don't know how our parents did it. I just can't make a kid eat something he doesn't like. My one son was born with a junk food gene. He will never change unless something really forces him to. My one daughter never eats junk food and loves fresh fruit and veggies. Both raised in the same house. In our house you ate what you were given, at least a small amount. I remember my mother saying eat at least 6 bites of liver. Raising four kids on a firemans salary was tight. But I still think there were other cheap things that weren't liver.

Never tried it in any form.. never wanted to, it doesn't look appealing. So I can't say if I'd like it or not. :)

I know exactly what you mean, my older one(8) has such a diverse taste in foods, he'll try anything and usually likes it, he's really big on veggies and fruits. Our younger one(3) won't try a thing and will stick only to a grain diet(cheerios, nutri-grain cereal bars, etc...) his doctor said it's normal :-?
