If someone told me that the Redskins game ended the way it did (and I hadn't seen it) I would have thought they were pulling my leg.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I just saw the replay of it, and I'd agree. That was not a 15 yarder.

While we're on the subject of penalties, can someone explain to me what a horse-collar tackle is, and why when players are pulled down from the back collar, it is not a penalty?

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

E says as he understands this fairly recent rule, if you pull the player from their shoulder pads, there's the potential for injury to the neck area, but not if you just pull them by their jersey.

Isn't that exactly what a horse-collar tackle is?

No penalty, part of the uniform, I guess. Did you see the play a week or two ago when the guy was tackled by his hair? He had a good 6 inches or so sticking out from the helmet, some guy grabbed it and pulled him down. Legal tackle.

Are you allowed to pull down by the shirt?

Yeah, that's why most teams have gone to the really snug unis. Also, they're much harder to "hold" while pass blocking, etc. No jersey to grab onto.

It's better known as the "Roy Williams Rule." Basically the NFL says too many injuries happen because the player being tackled usually falls on one/both of their legs. It's still a pretty shady rule though... :-? :-?

Interesting. I didn't know they banned that. It sure is an awkward way to fall.

I heard from him. He was busy drinking heavily, the only way he could stand to watch yet another turnover festival. Stick a fork in their season, no way they'll go 8-0 the rest of the way, which is about the only way they'll have a chance at the playoffs at this pointImage

I personally didn't see how it could have been called a 15 yard penalty, guys hand brushed the face guard, didn't look like fingers got into the mask.

I'm not sure if the refs saw that part. I think (someone already said it) that when the refs saw the head whip around, it's an automatic 15 yards no matter if the hand stayed in the mask.

Yeah, as soon as the head jerks, it's 15 yards, no matter how long you actually hold onto the facemask...
