Is the Margaritaville in Charleston, SC just a shop?
is that true? no restaurant?
That is true....just a shop.
I worked for the NBC station in Charleston when it opened. We were the only station in town to do a story on the opening of the store, so to thank us, the manager (Jeannie, I think) called us and set up an interview with Jimmy the next time he came to town....that raw footage of me interviewing him is one of my greatest treasures...
THEN, she gave me 4 tickets to a private show he did at the Charleston Coliseum as a dress rehearsal for his next tour....
The employees in that store are awesome!!!!
Charleston is my One Particular Habor...can't wait to move back!

Channel 4. What a GREAT opportunity! Why doesn't do a concert at the Charleston Coliseum? Is it too small? What did you ask him? What did he say? I love details.McKay wrote:That is true....just a shop.

He has done concerts at the North Charleston Coliseum, just not in awhile. In recent years, he has favored the newer Carolina Coliseum in Columbia when scheduling a South Carolina date ... perhaps because Columbia is the center of the state and can draw from east to Charleston as well as west to Greenville (and even a little farther, as I can attest!).
"I heard I was in town...."
Not real sure why he goes up to Columbia (the only reason to go Upstate is to watch the Gamecocks kick Clemson's ass in football...but that's a totally different thread)
The North Charleston Coliseum is AWESOME....it is so small that every seat is a good seat...AND, it's located right off 2 major roads, so getting in to tailgate is a breeze and getting out is a piece of cake.
Charleston is such a great town...nothing is more than about 20 minutes away from everything...so you can hit the show, then head down to Market street for ice cold adult beverages in no time flat!

If you *do* want the appropriate thread for that conversation (which I'll be more than happy to have with you) you can join us in the college FB thread. http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0

He plays Columbia in part because his lovely wife is from here.
Her parents I beleive are still here. Her brother runs a bonding company (no not bail bonds).

It would definately be cool if Jimmy played at some coastal South Carolina cities. I am thinking that someday he will perform in Charleston. I heard he used to play concert in Myrtle Beach back in the 70's at the convention center.
Sunset Beach is my Margaritaville. Where there is endless beach, no time, and sunshine that seems to last forever. I know that Someday I Will.....Someday.

Those smaller venues are great. Some of the older conerts sounds like Jimmy is relaly having a good time. The stories he tells are second-to-none.
As for the Margaritaville in Charleston, it's just the store. I spent Memorial Day weekend down there a few years ago. My girlfriend at the time took me there, I walked around and looked at everything as see went into other stores. I think I may have spent a good hour just browsing. It's def a cool place and worth checking out.
