Well then I'd suggest not spending a considerable amount of time in the VI. EVERYONE here serves Mahi-Mahi, and none very well, I might add. It's like cod in the Midwest, you can't avoid it.

Although this story is sad, it comes as no suprise to me. I love grouper and eat it often. I can usually spot a fake in a hurry. I once ordered a grouper sandwich at Cap's on the water (for you St Augie folks) and got tilapia. When I questioned it the wait person told me it was grouper, I'm not an idiot (some may disagree). On my next visit, the fish of the day was tilapia, and is most days. I think some resturantuers get bilked, but I also think that many resturants mainly in Florida and coastal tourist areas, think that there will be no return buisness, and most customers have no idea what they're eating so it just dosen't matter.

BTW and to continue my rant. The afore mentioned Cap's is only a couple of blocks from my house. It used to be my favorite hang out, but sadly they are living on rep and not quality anymore, the view is still great, but pricing and quality may take a toll.

Be thankful you have options, at least. In Milwaukee, when the local papers do their annual "Best of Milwaukee" surveys, Red Lobster always wins "best seafood"... (shudder)

Scrod is a size of fish...not a type. It could be aznything a scrod cod or flounder, etc...
Eat seafood? Use bait? Thank a commercial fisherman.

When your right, your right. I am thankful. That Red Lobster thing is just, well you said it (shudder). It kills me that the RL here is always packed, and worse, before they tore it down, the Captain D's or Long John Silver or whatever it was, always had business. Around here a pound of shrimp for $2.99 is called BAIT

Funny... Just last week our good friend and owner of our local haunt was telling me he had to get new menus because he had to change the name from Grouper Sandwhich to Fish Sandwhich...or something a little more creative. He said that since he uses frozen grouper and not fresh... and it comes from parts unknown..... he cannot sell it as Grouper. Now if he was at the docks every morning... and used the fresh grouper...he could sell it as such.

If you can't tell the difference between Grouper and Tiliapia, you shouldn't own a seafood restaurant....

that is so sad and should be considered false advertising. Maybe I will find one of these places, get sick from the fake grouper, sue them and own it :D
