Kingston, MA article about Jake

Post by SchoolGirlHeart »

Nice article/interview with Jake. One of these days, reporters MIGHT even learn how to spell "Buffett".....
Shimabukuro, 29, has so completely mastered the traditional Hawaiian instrument that he is often mentioned in the same breath as such elite fret masters as Bela Fleck (banjo), Mark Connor (violin), and Jerry Douglas (dobro). With five CD’s and a DVD to his credit, Shimabukuro has opened new melodic frontiers with the four-string instrument, blending jazz, pop, traditional island music, and classical music into a fusion that can’t be described - it simply must be listened to.

You've raved about Jake for some time, but I saw and heard him for the first time at Camden. Wow!!!!! First, I was surprised when I saw him - so young and such a real cutey! And when he played! OMG!!! I can't find the proper words to describe his immense talent. It was like a ukulele, mandolin, domra, balalaika, banjo, guitar exquisitely combined into music usually reserved for the heavens. But it was all him!
