Elton John's new album [title] song - The Captain & the

Post by Martyritaville »

Elton John's new Album to be released September 19th is called "The Captain and the Kid" and contains a song by the same name.

Does anybody know if he's covering Jimmy's song on this? I saw a news story on this and checked Elton's website, but no details were available.

If so, I'm not sure how I'd feel about that one...

No worries

If it IS the same song, might be worth a listen. Don't forget-Elton had a very "country" phase going on back in the 70's.

Elton John is my second favorite musical artist after Jimmy Buffett. I do not know about the song but I did know the title. I guess we shall see.

I like a lot of Elton's material and the more I think about it, I guess Jimmy's almost crooning phrasing on the song does sound like it would be a good fit for Elton.

Plus, maybe it'll open up some more folks to Jimmy's music. So many non-PH folks think that it's all about cheeseburgers and partying nekkid, so maybe it'll help them appreciate his music a little more.

Wow..You made me think... :o :D

I have all of Elton's LPs from the 70's and I remember him singing "The Captain and the kid"...went and pulled out the lyrics page from inside the jacket

It is actually a line from his title song from the album of the same name:

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy

Now that I have showed my age....
The upcoming album is “The Captain and the Kid,” a long-awaited sequel to Sir Elton and lyricist Bernie Taupin’s classic 1975 recording “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.” Presumably, the new album would pick up the storytelling threads of the first album’s song cycle 30 years later.

Hmmm. Thanx, BahamaBreeze. The plot thickens...

If it turns out to be JB's song, maybe Jimmy will reciprocate by covering Elton's "Friends". (showing MY age, now) I know a lot of folks don't like it when he does covers in concert, but it seems like it'd be a great fit for us Parrot Heads.

(ducking for cover)

I heard some folks talking about this album on the radio
yesterday and they were saying that this is apparently a
follow up to the Captain Fantastic album

Bahama Breeze got it right...sort of. The album is a follow up to Captain Fantastic. I just saw Elton John perform a couple of weeks ago in Vegas and he made mention of the new album. The title references himself and Bernie Taupin and it's not a Buffett cover.
Now I've got a terminal daydream,
That's something you'll never know
I keep it right here in my backpack, mon
And I take it wherever I go.

I am looking forward to the CD as Bernie and Elton wrote some classics together:
"Candle in the Wind", "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", and 1970's "Your Song", their first hit together.

As usual, BN rocks!

Thanx for clearing that up...although I still think "Friends" (Elton, not the sitcom) would be a good fit for JB...

Although...just got to thinkin' (alcohol could be a factor at this point...)

According to G**gle, Elton released "Brown Dirt Cowboy" in 1975 and "The Captain and the Kid" was released in 1970.

Coincidence? Hmm...

Thanx again, BNer's.
