Bad Boys at the Citadel Military College . . .

Post by flyboy55 »

Apparently wearing a military uniform (or quasi-military in this case) does not in and of itself grant the wearer immunity from moral depravity. Between recruiters as sexual predators and rapist cadets in faux-military gear I am having my doubts about letting these folks loose in a free-fire zone. This is why we can't win the hearts and minds of those whose countries we occupy . . .
Survey: 1 of 5 women at Citadel reports assault
68 percent also report sex harassment at formerly all-male military college

Updated: 1:00 p.m. ET Aug. 23, 2006

CHARLESTON, S.C. - About one of five female cadets at The Citadel last spring reported that she had been sexually assaulted since enrolling at the formerly all-male military college, according to a survey released by the school Wednesday.

Nineteen male cadets, or about one in 25 of the men surveyed, also reported being sexually assaulted since joining The Citadel.

Most of the incidents involving women happened in the barracks or elsewhere on campus and the perpetrator was another cadet, the survey said.

The survey also found that 68 percent of female cadets and 17 percent of male cadets said they were sexually harassed while attending the South Carolina institution, according to The Post and Courier.

Real life is bad. We need BN Feud to distract us from the evils that lurk in the real world....

I guess there's always someone, at least one, that is interested in this...I grew up 4 doors down from the Citadel....my father graduated from there...and saw my first "paid for" Buffett show there....

Need to read the article.....

I just want to see what it says about the Citadel....

Yup, flyboy I'll have to agree with you. If only those Citadel men hadn't harrassed the women the terrorists wouldn't have been motivated to hijack 4 planes and ram them into buildings. Maybe if we make our women wear tents the terrorists would not continue to attempt to blow up airplanes departing from London. Maybe just maybe if we had some public hangings and beheadings of some non-believers the radical terrorists wouldn't have blown up a couple of our embassies. Perhaps if we just wiped Israel off the map some of those terrorists would start to like us. We should have just ignored Saddam gassing and exterminating thousands of citizens of his own country (let me guess that didn't really happen did it)

Flyboy, do you like stirring up trouble here on BN, or is all part of your "research?" :-?

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I just don't understand why he continues to post the same political agenda on THIS website. Isn't there a more appropriate website you can post your articles on?

Looking at flyboys location, it doesn't suprise me. I hate to be geographicaly profiling here, but it seems that this attitude is prevalent. Sorry, I don't want to ruffle feathers of the fine North East parrotheads out there. I am certainly an advocate for free speech, the same free speech that me and countless others have served and fought and died to preserve, but Flyboys kind of crap does not belong on this forum. This is where I go to escape the very thing that Flyboy promotes. Flyboy please give it up or go somewhere else and post it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to rant....now I'll go take a chill pill and enjoy the rest of the day!

a) then why engage in it?
b) you label his posts as crap, a pejorative and hardly defending free speech
c) you wrap yourself in the flag in this post, so one is to automatically assume your belief/opining is superior?
d) since it is posted in "off-topic", it is probably more appropriate than in "2006 Tour".
e) there is always the option of not reading his posts, a freedom you can exercise at will.

and just for the record, I had spotted this story elsewhere, and figured someone put it on the wire about the same time as the story about the recruiting officers' legal violations.

and I don't read all his posts either. :)

I think your missing the big picture. If this was his first time posting something of this nature nobody would care and some would find it interesting. Almost every week you can come to the off topic area and find one of his threads that he started concerning some sort of anti-military agenda. Why not post this stuff on a more appropriate website? Just a simple question. If he continues to post the same type of articles over and over it won't bother me but wouldn't he get more satisfaction if he posted it on a website where this type of thing was routinely discussed?

As long as he doesn't violate the rules here as viewed/interpreted by the Mods, he can post whatever he wants. In this particular case, his differing opinion is hitting close to home. Tomorrow, he might hit close to home on someone else. But, freedom of speech (even within the limits set forth by the rules here as drafted by Jim) is still freedom of speech. And you are welcome to disagree with him, and post it; as long as you stay inside the rules too.

yada yada yada... we all know he is not violating the rules and again I have no problem with the context within his posts. My point is wouldn't he get more satisfaction posting this on a more appropriate website? Why chose a JB website to post these articles on? Maybe he should answer these questions.

If someone came on this website and continuely spouted off about how well we are doing in Iraq and war is great and we need to support Bush etc.... I would be saying the same thing. Maybe it's time to find a more appropriate website. In my opinion he does this to stir the pot within this website and I think that's unfortunate :-?. Now to more pressing matters like what I'm having for lunch :D
