'Bama Breeze Video Debut

After sitting through some trudge by some moaning music artists and Kenny Cheesy they finally got to the real island dude....

I was just in Bay St Louis last week and walked by that bar - I've only ever been to it once before Katrina, what was it - the Fire Saloon? I wish I could remember things like that - and noticed the sand they had piled up for the video was still there but nothing else. Nor did I actually walk through it.

Cool tune. A laid-back tune. But I didn't really catch any reference to a hurricane in the lyrics. It's a catchy chorus and has some good imagery within it and one part especially gets the attention where he yells out God d a m m i t make some noise!

My only concern with the video is there wasn't really any footage of the surrounding distruction from Katrina - everywhere around that is destroyed, and further to the southwest in Waveland of course.....

Why is the cover of the single from the LTC hype era?

It was done well. The footage to show some of the destruction was showing how beautiful it was when he walked out to the end of the railroad bridge.

Knowing that hwy 90 bridge is gone and will be gone for a while yet, said more than enough for me about destruction.

I thought it was very well done. Wondering how others are feeling about it.

having been down there the last two springs, and spending a lot of Stars 2005 watching them tear down buildings right and left while dredging sand and getting the beach back in shape, I have to say that unless you actually spend time there, you really don't get a feel for just how torn up the area was (and still is over west on I-10). The video didn't really show that at all.

That said, it isn't a bad video. They used some super 8 film to give it an old-time feel in spots. The extras were a bit too "cut" than they were in Jimmy's day, a little too beach-bunnyish. LuLu came off well tho. :)

It did beat the crap out the videos they'd shown to that point, and was more interesting than the Gretchen Wilson interview afterward.

You are exactly right; it doesn't, but that's ok with me.

The ending was pretty powerful. That one shot really made me think of the Florabama.

yep, and the weasels cut away to babble about the audience. I am wondering if the steam shovel actually took a bite.

Didn't I read somewhere that the bar in the video was supposed to be destroyed by Hurricane Ivan, not Katrina?

It is supposed to be the Flora-Bama, which was virtually destroyed when Ivan blew in to Gulf Shores. I haven't been back down to GS since I left the Monday before Ivan hit; but from what I understand, the Flora-Bama was razed and has now been rebuilt.

The Fire Dog (I believe that is the name of the one in the video) was destroyed by Katrina (it was near Gulfport, MS). There was a bit of a flap because the video was shot there rather than the Flora-bama for a variety of reasons. The latter was destroyed by Ivan, and has been being rebuilt ever since.

Just finished watching the video - had to tape Top 20 this afternoon and just got to watch it. I like it. I think that the interspersed "old" clips really help capture the feeling of growing up on the southern beaches.

Maybe it is because I grew up down here but the southern places, like Gulf Shores, Panama City and Daytona just have that charm, and they each have the little old hole in the wall place that everyone knows and goes to have a good time.

I think the end of the video, with everyone toasting the old place as it gets repaired puts a positive spin on the destruction that was laid upon the gulf coast by Ivan and Katrina. I know Gulf Shores-Orange Beach-Perdido has rebuilt and is in some ways better than before (which is why the Flora-Bama couldn't be used for the video). Biloxi is coming back, slowly but surely, as are other parts of the MS coast.

As a somewhat "local" to the Flora-Bama...........I can share that it was completely destroyed by Hurricane Ivan.....although it is open again, just in a somewhat smaller version.......the Gulf Coast of both Alabama and Florida are doing a great job of recovering from both Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis (Many forget that Dennis hit the panhandle of Florida in July of 2006 with 120+ winds)....

Speaking of CMT, have you seen the Ulimate Tailgater? It's huge, and though I'm not sure the back-woods theme would fit in a Buffett parking lot, I would love to have it for my next tailgate.

I saw someone on another board refer to Chesney's video as "soft p***". I asked if the little guy gave Tom Cruise a lap dance.
