Coaching Colton's team, filling in for Cameron's coach...be careful, next thing you know you'll be heading up the whole Dallas-area youth soccer program!
Yeah, I think the silliness must come from Mrs. Play
I need to get a picture of his happy dance - it really is cute.
Believe it or not, North Texas has the biggest youth soccer program in the US. I'm really having fun with it so far, so I guess you never know...

Thanks Coach - I'm guessing you learned that from experience?

No, just advice from a 25 year veteran coach to a rookie coach! Gotch ya.
Here's an excerpt from an email I got from one of the mom's last night;
I really appreciate you and how you interact with the kids. Don't be afraid to get onto ______ if he's not doing something he should be... he needs that. And, I won't be offended! : ) You are a great coach!!

The Pirate boys got a good lesson in sportsmanship today. Apparently the other coach decided to forfeit the game, but the message didn't get to all of their parents. Neither he nor their referee showed up, and 5 of their players didn't come either. I stepped in as referee / field coach for both teams and we played 3-on-3.
Then I referee'd our oldest son's Under-8 team.
Then we rode bikes for 8 miles (I gave Cameron a new bike for his birthday today).
Then we went to Chili's and I had 4 Jamaican Paradises.
Go Pirates!!!

They published the schedule for the tournament yesterday.
We have 7 games in the next 11 days - plus the 2 games my other son has this weekend, and I'm coaching one of them too

The boys played their hearts out in all 3 games today. If we kept score, we would be 3-1 in the tournament and 10-2-1 on the season. The last game tonight was against a team that plays 2 divisions up from us. They were fast and strong, they played rough, and we beat them 10-8. As a coach, it is awesome to know that you are the underdog and watch your team outplay the competition. During that game I realized how much the team has improved this season. I was so proud of how we played that I teared up in our after-game huddle.
We have one game left on Tuesday, then the season is over. Right now all of the boys are planning to come back next season, which I’m already looking forward to.

It sounds like you were a wonderful coach and the boys responded to you.

Tuesday’s game was postponed for wet fields, so we had our final game last night. It was against the first team we played all season, so it was a good measuring stick for both teams. The Pirates have come a long way since that first game!
We had our soccer party between tournament games last weekend. Here’s a picture of the cake I had made and the plaque the parents gave me.
All of the players are planning to return in the spring, and some are interested in playing indoor soccer in January and February. That will be good experience because we’ll be playing against teams from other districts around the area.
Go Pirates!!!
