The Millcreek police investigation into former McDowell Intermediate High School Principal Tom Maciulewicz goes beyond the alleged theft of synthesizers from the school and their sale on eBay.
Millcreek Township School District officials are trying to determine whether additional items sold from an eBay account may have been stolen from the district. The items are two Apple Macintosh G4 laptop computers, a Diamondback Elliptical exercise machine, a Hitachi mobile LCD projector, a Planar 17-inch computer monitor, and several used musical instruments.
Millcreek schools Superintendent Dean Maynard said the district is currently conducting an audit of its 13 schools to determine if district property is missing. He said the district has focused its accounting on items listed for sale on eBay by a user called "electrontv."
"We're taking these items and matching them to district inventory,"Maynard said Tuesday. "We have found a few matches."
Maynard did not wish to specify which missing items matched those sold on eBay. He and district lawyer Richard Perhacs have confirmed that Maciulewicz's resignation on Friday is connected to a police theft investigation.
Police have filed a search warrant with eBay requesting account information for "electrontv," who is based in Erie. That user name was switched recently from "maciulewicz1970," according to eBay records and a search warrant that police filed in Millcreek Township District Judge Paul Manzi's office.
Maciulewicz - whose salary for the 2005-06 school year was $92,935 - was born in 1970. He was divorced, but remarried on Aug. 19. He and his wife own a $250,000 home under construction in Millcreek's Echo Hills subdivision, according to county property records.
He had been McDowell Intermediate principal since 2003.
Maciulewicz did not return phone calls Tuesday seeking comment.
Millcreek Police Capt. Harry Love confirmed his investigation included items sold on eBay by "electrontv."
"We're going to look at the entire history there and the transactions," Love said.
He said the nature of the investigation will determine its timeline. He also declined comment on charges or whether any statements had been made.
Love said it will take up to 10 business days to get a response from the search warrant, which was filed Friday.
According to the search warrant, Maciulewicz on Aug. 31 reported that 14 synthesizers were stolen from the school during summer break. He called police on Sept. 5 to say the synthesizers had been found.
On Sept. 6, a local music-store owner located similar synthesizers being sold on eBay by "electrontv" under a listing that stated "I have multiple Korg N364s to sell," according to the warrant. The store owner discovered "electrontv" had been known as "maciulewicz1970"from June 16, when the account was opened, to Aug. 31.
EBay records indicate "electrontv"sold at least 11 Korg N364 synthesizers on the auction Web site from Aug. 7 through Sept. 4. Their combined sale price is $7,391.
Since June 27, "electrontv" has sold at least 34 items on eBay. Included are two Macintosh laptops for $2,185, three Sony Handycam digital video recorders for a combined $1,538.50, and an elliptical exercise machine for $699.
Buyers left 24 positive responses for "electrontv" as of Tuesday night. They include comments such as "Trustworthy and responsive" and "Thanks for the deal."
The Millcreek school district is advertising for Maciulewicz's replacement, Superintendent Maynard said. The Millcreek Township School Board will vote whether to accept his resignation on Thursday.
Assistant principals Stephanie Williams and Anthony LaRocco are currently acting as co-principals at McDowell Intermediate. Maynard said Millcreek students would not be affected by the changes.
"The school hasn't missed a beat,"Maynard said.

How to use eBay
EBay is an Internet auction site in which buyers bid on items listed for sale. The high bidder wins the auction.
To bid on or sell items on the site, you must be a registered user.
New users who want to bid must first create a free account. Users must be 18 or older and must give a credit card number for identification purposes if registering with a free e-mail account, such as Yahoo or Hotmail. The account holder then creates a user name and password. After reading and accepting the eBay user agreement and privacy policy, the user will receive a confirmation e-mail.
Once that e-mail is received, the registered user can bid on items. Most users go to eBay's Web site and search for items using keywords. Buyers can submit bids for items they want to purchase.
The high bidder for an item at the time the auction ends is the winner and then communicates by e-mail with the person selling the item to exchange financial and shipping information.
The method of payment will vary with each sale, with the buyer usually getting a choice of paying via online money transfer, a money order, etc. Some items have a predetermined method of sale.

Excuse me?? You're not making enough off of the public, you feel you need to take things that aren't yours??PIA wrote:Maciulewicz - whose salary for the 2005-06 school year was $92,935...
I don't know anything about the area, is this a smaller income than most? Not that those being paid little amounts are ok to steal stuff. That dollar amount just sounds about DARN GOOD to me, so I'm just wondering what's going through his head?
I see he bought these: Pair of KT&C Black & White CCD Mini Spy Cameras, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 9744801814 maybe he was getting paranoid?!?!

Over 92 grand a year, paid for by taxpayers, some of whom probably gross 1/4 of what he does in a year, and yet he feels the need to steal items from a school, items paid for by the same taxpayers, and sell them online for his own profit
If I were a taxpayer there I'd want his head served up on a platter. I"d love to see them make him reimburse the school district for the cost of all those items he scarfed up and resold.

What a betrayal of trust...not only because of the property stolen, but as you point out; he has hurt the emotions of all the individuals who once looked up to him.
