I was at the MSG show last night and Jimmy mentioned that John Hiatt was one of the original members of his band.
I am a huge John Hiatt fan (and a huge JB fan) and had never heard this before. The Wikipedia entry for John Hiatt doesn't mention anything about it either. Did I hear Jimmy wrong last night? Does anybody have any more info?
(and I apologize if this has been discussed before...)

Re: John Hiatt
Jimmy said at some small venue live show (at the Belly-up?) that John Hiatt was his first guitar player in his first studio band in Nashville as he introduces the song 'Blue Telescope'.hokieian wrote:I was at the MSG show last night and Jimmy mentioned that John Hiatt was one of the original members of his band.

Re: John Hiatt
So would he have played on Down to Earth or High Cumberland Jubilee? I've got those LPs at home - I'll have to check the credits.Soraya wrote:Jimmy said at some small venue live show (at the Belly-up?) that John Hiatt was his first guitar player in his first studio band in Nashville as he introduces the song 'Blue Telescope'.hokieian wrote:I was at the MSG show last night and Jimmy mentioned that John Hiatt was one of the original members of his band.

Jimmy said the samething at the Mohegan Sun show this past June.I was totally unaware of that as well. But what surprises me even more is that instead of covering Window on the World why didnt Jimmy do Thank God The Tiki Bar Is Open.I know they played it live everynight on the 2003 tour but man I'd love a studio version of that! That song smokes!!!

Jimmy has mentioned that John was in his first band in Nashville many times over the years, especially during live shows just before playing a John Hiatt song. I haven't been able to verify that this is fact however I will note that John Hiatt hasn't denied it and given their relative ages and where they were at the time it is entirely likely that they knew each other and played together in Nashville.
