Any One Know Latin?
We are going to get our 11 year old daughter one of the new lime green iPods for her birthday. She has a long bus ride to her magnet school each day and she's mentioned (read as: HINT!) that many of the kids have Ipods because the bus is so loud.
Well, if you buy it online, they have free engraving..2 lines, each with 23 characters. I want to put one the first line, her name, Rocky J******
and on the second....Quietly Making Noise......but in Latin.
That is her favorite JB song an this is her first year of taking Latin( which she is really liking, though she only took the class to make me happy and expected to hate it....she's had to admit that maybe Mom isn't always wrong...I knew she'd like it!).
I thought it would be a neat combination or Jimmy and Latin. I do plan on emailing her Latin teacher, but I thought that maybe someone here might be able to help quicker.
Any takers?

I interpreted the noise as music, but word for word "sonitus" would be correct, I thinkSoraya wrote:Thanks for attempting! LOL...yeah, but I've never met the woman, so I don't know how she will respond to helping me do something like this. I mean....translating Jimmy Buffett for the back of an iPod is not exactly....well.....it's not exactly serious academics.ph4ever wrote:I took French, my son Japanease
sorry no help there but I think the idea of contacting the Latin Teacher is the best presented so far

I was a Latin major and I can't remember any vocab (plus we took things out of Latin, rather than putting things back in)!!
And my parents stuck me in it because the French teacher was nuts, and the Spanish classes for the first 2 years were for the dumb kids (and had lousy teachers), but the Latin teacher was supposed to be great. Except he was on sabbatical for my first year, so they found some unstable jerk (he claimed to have hookers and beer in the closet, talked to the ceiling, but didn't get fired until he threw a tantrum where he slammed the door hard enough to crack the glass in it, almost hit a student, then threw a desk down the stairs). He was replaced by a college instructor, who was great. Then the original teacher came back and only stayed for a year and a half, so we got her again. I learned a lot from both of them- the original good teacher frequented the same bar I did in Indy, so we've kept in touch.

You're supporting your daughter's interest in her class- I'm sure she'll do it. Besides, every Latin teacher I've ever known has had a good sense of humor about stuff like that. Latin For All Occasions might make a good small gift for your daughter too.Soraya wrote:LOL...yeah, but I've never met the woman, so I don't know how she will respond to helping me do something like this. Re: Any One Know Latin?
What a good idea. I just ordered the pink one last week for my daughter. I wish I could have come up with something as creative as you for her engraving. Let us know how it turns out. Cool idea!Soraya wrote:We are going to get our 11 year old daughter one of the new lime green iPods for her birthday.
