Jimmy Buffett's new
country album, Take the Weather With You, will be released Oct. 10 on Mailboat Records/RCA Nashville. The title refers to his version of "Weather With You," a song written by Tim and Neil Finn and originally recorded by Crowded House in 1991. The album also includes his latest single, "Bama Breeze," a tribute to historic bars along the Gulf Coast. He also covers Merle Haggard's "Silver Wings" and Mary Gauthier's "Wheel Within a Wheel." Buffett said, "Without realizing it, I went to my roots on this record. It's not a stretch for me to do country music." Buffett's previous album, License to Chill, debuted at No. 1 on the pop and country charts in 2004 and included the No. 1 country duet with Alan Jackson, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere."

I've never seen a review of a Jimmy Buffett album in any of the NY papers.

If there is a review in the Atlanta paper it won't be until the day the album is released. Music reviews (except I think very rare instances) in the Journal Constitution are always on Tuesdays and cover albums released that day. There is usually one review that starts on the section cover and continued inside, another 2 or 3 reviewed inside, and then a list of remaining albums released that day.

Uh...am I wrong? "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" wasn't even on License To Chill. I swear they can't even get the most basic information right!!!

Honestly? I never read/listen to reviews anyway
the movies that the critics love I often find less than entertaining
and the same is true with books and music.
I doubt I will read any reviews on the new CD.
unless I need to mock and dismiss the critics.. once again.

Mock On, Baby, Mock On. Just be sure to post it here, too, for our enjoyment. Actually, a weird thing has been happening to me regarding MOVIE critics. It's a little scary. For the past year I find that I enjoy reading the reviews (good ones, insightful ones) more than seeing the movie.

BNers do such a great job on the songlist database.

They should correct the writers for It's Five O'Clock Somewhere.

I've been lucky enough to hear some/most of the new album and It's really good! Not as much "country" feel to it as I thought was coming. Great cover of the title track. I don't want to spoil the fun for anyone so I'll shut up now.

JUst listened to clips of all the songs and its just almost another country album. Mostly half of it anyway. I did like the title track tho and Wheel within a wheel. Other than that I am not a big country fan. May skip this one.

Only 3 songs that sound decent from the album. I'll have to wait until the 10th to fully listen to it, and label it crap.
Buffett. Please stay far far away from country music in the future!

You are a man of rigorous tastes and a plain tongue. I like that. I tend to trust cranky people. I'd love to know which 3 new songs appealed to you and, also, what other artists you enjoy listening to.

Not really, you can hear the entire record Wednesday night on RM, label it crap immediately, and save yourself fifteen bucks. Then you can post your negative comments for almost a week before the rest of us go out and buy it. That way you won't have to base your premature review on 30 second sound clips.

I don't think anything could spoil the fun of this new record.
