Back to Weather with you, though its sounds nice and light as a single, the true magic behind the song is when it's done live and the crowd sings along. The BEST live version I can suggest you listen to is from the "Neil Finn and Friends live at the St.James" CD where Tim joins Neil on stage for the song... hear the crowd clap along during the middle of the song, then the acoustic guitars work in harmony before bringing the crowd into a singalong before the song closes... it's the version i believe does the song justice.

Thank you for stopping by. I can't add much to that wonderful brief overview of Crowded House and the Finn Brothers. If that live cd is the one that also features Bic Runga, it is an absolute gem! How Bic Runga never broke in the US is beyond me. Well, maybe not. We are the country that made Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney popular.... :)

I'm so excited about the propsect of hearing this song live with the Parrotheads in full throat. Here's hoping for a Hawaii gig before Christmas!

I was taken with the mix of themes .... Memphis and New Orleans.

I would not have minded that the CD went more in that direction, but after reading the transcript, the manner in which these songs merge makes perfect sense.

There is no doubt that producers Michael and Mac know exactly what they are doing.

Landreth, imo, is a wonderful force on this CD on many levels.

Not to keen about "Everybody's On The Phone," .... seems like this would have made much a better impact a few years back ... it's a very clever song, imo, that might be better served on a different CD.

I talked to a friend in the business regarding the new album going number 1 next week and he said it might be tough beating out Rod Stewarts new one and also Justin Timberlake current cd is selling strong.

I really have no idea how this will sell. I'm sure it will get up to the top 10 by next week (they always do), but after that is a mystery. LTC was a best seller because there were so many other artists on it. This album is all Jimmy, but maybe so many people heard about LTC's success and will bue this one too. :-?

Well I picked my copy up today.

Not being overjoyed with the Bama Breeze song I was concerned.

I found that the album as a whole was instantly listenable and by the third play through I found myself attempting to sing several of the songs.

Even though I remain disappointed in Jimmy's lack of writing on the albums these days I can say for myself that I will be listening to this album quite often. Of course it will have to take it's place with the other (whatever number of studio/live CD's of his I have).

The liner notes were great and would have loved them to be longer. I do hope Jimmy writes another book about his travels.

If you heard the RM show where Jimmy gave some backgound to each song it helps to understand where he's coming from. I like it. 8) 8) 8)

I loved how he talked about his trip to Argentina. His experiences there were very similar to mine. I've never been to Tierra del Fuego, but Buenos Aires is pretty similar in culture if not latitude. 8) I wonder what drew him to Argentina..... maybe the steak!

On the 5 star rating system:

1 - Bama Breeze - 4 - Nice start!
2 - Party At The End Of The World - 5 - Fantastic!!!
3 - Weather With You - 3 - Good, but without background singing it could've been better
4 - Everybody's on the Phone - 3 - Love to hear Fingers...song just O.K.
5 - Whoop De Doo - 1 - Boring...
6 - Nothing But A Breeze - 5 Very, very good
7 - Cinco de Mayo in Memphis - 2 - Needed to be a little more up-beat
8 - Reggabilly Hill - 3 - Good, not great
9 - Elvis Presley Blues - 2 - definitely filler
10 - Hula Girl At Heart - 2 - Lyrics are O.K. but it's boring
11 - Wheel Inside The Wheel - 3 - Good, not great
12 - Silver Wings - 4 - Gives Merle a nice island touch
13 - Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On - 2 - another bore
14 - Dukes On Sunday - 5 - Really captures the feel of a breezy Hawaiian day, and stays true to the Kapono original.

Overall: 3.14 Good

It could've used a few more up-tempo numbers and a few more "written by Jimmy" songs. I'm not too thrilled with the band currently. I prefer the "sound" that Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, and Banana Wind had. It seems that it's not as polished as it used to be. I think the blame falls mostly on Utley. The playing doesn't seem to be passionate on record anymore. The last spark was on the song "The Far Side of the World".

I like it. I'm not too crazy about Wheel inside the Wheel but then again, I have never in my life bought an album where I liked ALL the songs. I like the way he mixed it up.

I saw the song list of Rod's album... it shouldn't that hard to beat him out. :)

I'm a pretty new parrothead, have listened to most of the old albums, but in the last year, i've mostly listened to live concerts on RM or seen the live DVDs....

What a remarkable difference the studio album makes!! Mr. Buffett's voice is alot better than i had been giving him credit for; the clarity and crispness with which one can hear the various instumental lines is extraordinary!! So much better.

I had already heard Party, Phone, Bama and Here we are...but SOOOO much better here...i may actually like Phone after all!! (already loved the others)

In rough order of preference:

Breathe
Reggabilly
Cinco de mayo
Nothin' Breeze
Whoop
Bama
Party

Wonder if tracks on albums ever become hits without promotion? I like all of these a possible hits, but promo is only for Bama--thats a mistake

at least, that's my opinion

Hey, P&T, I couldn't agree with you more about the vocals. I have only seen a couple of mentions - kind of in passing - about that. I was really knocked out by JB's vocals on this. I didn't know he had it in him.

BTW, which way does your list of songs go - favorite at the beginning or at the end?

Actually, its so close, it almost doesnt matter...but I'd have to say Breath In is my favorite...tho the others keep running thru my head!!! (one at a time, usually)

are you reviewing the album without really hearing it? :P

I've now listened, mainly as background music, some while driving and a little as my sole concentration. So here's my two-cents:

1 - Bama Breeze - Really like this one. Seeing the video, and knowing some of the back-story helps.
2 - Party At The End Of The World - Still not a favorite. Not so sure about all of the electric-voice backing vocals. It is nice and upbeat, so that helps.
3 - Weather With You - Like the sound of it, it's easy to sing along with.
4 - Everybody's on the Phone - Upbeat, fun song. I like this one.
5 - Whoop De Doo - I know I'll find a time and place for this slow one, but haven't just yet.
6 - Nothing But A Breeze - Good story, good tempo - easy to dance to (you knew I'd say that in here somewhere)
7 - Cinco de Mayo in Memphis - Growing on me, but not an instant hit. We'll see??
8 - Reggabilly Hill - Growing on me, but not an instant hit. We'll see??
9 - Elvis Presley Blues - Following the last two, for me, this one doesn't bring the excitement of the album back.
10 - Hula Girl At Heart - This one has the feel of a couple of my favorite albums. I like this one, performed live the tempo should increase, and be better.
11 - Wheel Inside The Wheel - I like this one, the tempo is good. I like the subject/story.
12 - Silver Wings - This one is good, not on my favorites of the album list, but good.
13 - Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On - This one I absolutely LOVE. It's number 2 for me. I love that Jimmy thought about screaming and bitching about the situation, then got with Matt, took a breath and decided to go with this one.
14 - Dukes On Sunday - I really like this song, though I've never heard Kapono do it....not yet anyway.
15 - Here We Are - This is my #1, I loved when I first heard it back in April. I loved it more when I saw the video at Shoreline. I loved the new version when I heard the Detroit broadcast. Did I mention that I love this one?

For me, who has placed the songs on his iPod in the exact order listed above, listening to tracks 13, 14, 15 & 1 is a great quartet. I find myself tracking back to listen to these four over and over. Therefore hurting the 7, 8, 9 portion of the album. I find myself skipping over a few just to get to my fav's....which I don't do every time, but a bit.

I love these lists - especially the ones like yours ~Hippolyte~ that go into more detail. You took the time to think about and give some nice detail. Thanks.
Probably the most interesting thing to me about the lists is how very different we all are, even though we are all fans of the same artist. One person loves Wheel, say, and it's like nails on a chalkboard for the next. :-?

I think the new album is good overall. I too would like to hear more original lyrics but I do like the way he takes other words and music and makes it his own.
I have been in bed the last few days sick- aint that fun. But I caught the debut show on RM. I have seen a number of different posts which have me confused. The confusion on my part being- is the "Here We Are" video on the cd itself or is this just something that comes with buying the cd from itunes?

I would also like to say that I dont know of one BAD album Jimmy made. Every album has its flavor. Personally, Off To See The Lizard is one of my favorites but all of them are. Sometimes I need to put a little tabasco on my food. Other times it just needs a little salt. Sometimes it is just great on its own. It all depends on my mood. Each Buffett album reaches an emotion in me that coincides with my frame of mind at the time. Sometimes I feel like a "Strange Bird" being an "Elvis Imitator." Other times I feel the need to take a drive on a "Ragtop Day" in my "USS Zydecoldsmobile" to "The Far Side Of The World." But that's just me.

OK where was I? Oh yes...is the video on the cd or does it just come with itunes as a bonus? :pirate:
