4 - Everybody's on the Phone - 3 - Love to hear Fingers...song just O.K.
5 - Whoop De Doo - 1 - Boring...
6 - Nothing But A Breeze - 5 Very, very good
7 - Cinco de Mayo in Memphis - 2 - Needed to be a little more up-beat
8 - Reggabilly Hill - 3 - Good, not great
9 - Elvis Presley Blues - 2 - definitely filler
10 - Hula Girl At Heart - 2 - Lyrics are O.K. but it's boring
11 - Wheel Inside The Wheel - 3 - Good, not great
12 - Silver Wings - 4 - Gives Merle a nice island touch
13 - Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On - 2 - another bore
14 - Dukes On Sunday - 5 - Really captures the feel of a breezy Hawaiian day, and stays true to the Kapono original.

Overall: 3.14 Good

It could've used a few more up-tempo numbers and a few more "written by Jimmy" songs. I'm not too thrilled with the band currently. I prefer the "sound" that Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, and Banana Wind had. It seems that it's not as polished as it used to be. I think the blame falls mostly on Utley. The playing doesn't seem to be passionate on record anymore. The last spark was on the song "The Far Side of the World".

I've only listened to it one time so far, but on the first time around, VERY easy to listen to and every song has a good beat and good lyrics.

(Of course after the next couple of times, I'll get a better idea of the technique of the album)

Does that mean the video is on the CD? I'm still not sure.

Okay, Ian play too....

1 - Bama Breeze - 3 - Pretty good, I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot of it though...
2 - Party At The End Of The World - 5 - Heh, I loved the live version, but the studio version is awesome!
3 - Weather With You -3- Still growing on me, but a great tune
4 - Everybody's on the Phone - 4 - "...I'm ADD on AOL..." I LOVE that line!!!!
5 - Whoop De Doo - 1 - Really blah.
6 - Nothing But A Breeze - 4 - Also, great ditty
7 - Cinco de Mayo in Memphis - 3 - kinda fun
8 - Reggabilly Hill - 6 - I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! My favorite on the album.
9 - Elvis Presley Blues - 0 - YUCK! Only song on here I don't like
10 - Hula Girl At Heart - 5 - Awesome Jimmy song, I was humming it in school today
11 - Wheel Inside The Wheel - 2 - Um, well, its long and kinda weird, but Jimmy did say in the interview "after you've done (x-amount) of records over 40 years, you can be long and weird."
12 - Silver Wings - 2 - Mmmm, I dunno yet...
13 - Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On - 5 - Great song. All I can say. Its very Jimmy.
14 - Dukes On Sunday - 4 - I didn't much like Waikiki Beach (too crowded), but Dukes is a fun song. He played it live last year I believe...
15 - Here we are - 5 - Sounds like a real goodbye song, he said he's doing another album, but if this were it, Here We Are was a respectful end to his songwriting legacy.

Overall.... LOVE IT! License to Chill took a while to grow on me, this one caught me from the very beginning! Thanks for another winner Jimmy!

Wow Whoop is really taking a beating. I guess nobody here cares for Mark Knopler's style or amazing guitar playing. This is Jimmy's best vocals in a long time.

Too often now, he sounds more like talking than singing (doesn't help with the actaul talking that he does in songs).

First listens are ok. No stand outs... better than, say Beach House, but I wish he would get back to the singer-songwriter stuff instead of so many gimmicky tunes... yes we expect some of that and sometimes they go together, but I prefer the balanced mix like his 3 excellent mid 90s albums.

My turn for the rating system...
Bama Breeze - 4 - I don't know why, but I really like it
PATEOTW - 4 - the studio doesn't do the song justice, but I still love it.
Weather With You - 4 - this song grew on me in an instant, and it is very singable
Everybody's on the Phone - 4 -Not a bad observation of our culture today.
Whoop De Doo - 1 - Don't really care for it, didn't need it in the CD.
Nothin But a Breeze - 4- this would be a 5 if I was going to be a grandpa soon, but I still love it.
Cinco De Mayo - 3 - I like the song overall, but I'm not sure how the 2 Memphis songs fit into the whole CD.
Regabilly Hill - 3 - It's gonna grow on me, like the refrain.
Elvis Presley Blues - 1 - Good analysis of the King's popularity, but the song s u c k s.
Hula Girl at Heart - 3 - This song grown on me too. Like the rythem to it.
Wheel Inside the Wheel - 2 - I don't really dig the whole talking thing, but I like the tribute to Mardi Gras
Silver Wings - 2 - Nice song, but doesn't do anything for me.
BIBOMO - 4 - I think this is my new philosophy. My first reaction when he mentioned Ponchatrain by name, was "Oh sh*t, no he didn't!"
Duke's on Sunday - 4 - Great closer. Gotta get back to Hawaii. Soon. 8)

What makes this album different and quite goof (R.B.Hill my favorite) is something that I know darn well I will get cruicifed on here for, but considering myself a parrothead, but also a realist---is that fact that lyrically (cause Buffett didnt write most) and musically its very impressive. Jimmy carries a tune and the songs arent about the eighth deadly sin being pizza or math sucking. I love Jimmy as much as everyone, but when it comes to talented writing and playing he is no Bob Dylan or Eric Clapton-----but on this one he does damn good.

The album as a whole was ok for me but no immediate classics.

Bama Breeze...good tune, mediocre lyrics
PATEOTW...sounds like the missing song from DSTC, didin't like
Weather...starts out good, then loses me
Everybody's/phone...Math Sux, Hokey pokey, same songs
Whoop...ok, could've used Mark Knopfler on Breath in...
Nothin'/breeze...eh, maybe it'll grow on me
Cinco/Memphis...see previous song
Reggabilly Hill...see previous 2 songs
Elvis Blues...good tune, just wish it was about something else
Hula Girl...Love the intro, LOVE Fingers!!
Wheel/wheel...not sure about this one yet, ok so far
Silver Wings...definitely sounds like a Merle Haggard song, not JB
Breathe in...best song on the cd, hands down. Loved it
Dukes/Sunday...2nd best song on cd. Loved it

Great to hear Fingers again!!! I hope he comes back for more. :D

There are actually fifteen songs on the album. Here We Are - the hidden video track - is not making onto some of these lists. Maybe it's too well hidden. :)

I hope you don't get crucified. I think we're all smart enough to see that JB's songwriting has lost something over the years. I think it hit rock bottom on the "Beach House On the Moon" album which I can't even listen to. Very few artists can maintain a high level of songwriting over such a long span (Springsteen comes to mind as one who has) and there's nothing wrong with selecting the quality songs he chose to cover on this album. I had a much bigger problem with the last album when he worked with such inferior artists instead of people like Steve Earle and Fred Eaglesmith (two random examples that would have made more sense). At least he's not pandering to the masses with this album.

The problem for me is the song sounds slow, serious and then all the sudden you get Whoop De Do? That's the bad part, the guitar, Mark's playing, Jimmy's voice, good.
