Best thing...a great new album!
I'm listening to the CMT streaming of this, and it is GREAT! I was raised with tons of country music and western swing, and even for me, a lot of LTC was too country. I love the tropical flavor, IMHO it comes across so much better than LTC. The cover of "Silver Wings" is one of my favorites. I've heard many covers of it, and this is the best by far!
So does anyone know if Sonny Landreth played on this? There are a couple tunes that really sound like him, but I'm not sure. I like Sonny, but Peter is my favorite guitarist!

Hi, landofmangoes. There is some information - including musician credits - here: http://www.buffettnews.com/newalbum.html
Let's see. You joined in Feb '05 and this was your first post? I say your holding something back.

Looking at that list of musicians' credits, I don't see Peter Mayer, only Jim. Do my eyes deceive me? Is there an error in the list? I seem to remember that Peter and Jim both were on tour during the tracking for LTC and so weren't on the album. There is some great guitar work on TTWWY - apart from the slide work by Sonny Landreth which is uniformly uplifiting. Perhaps my favorite instrumental bit on this record is the slide guitar riff before the 2nd verse of Here We Are. It's two bars of non-stop movement - wall to wall - from the first 16th (or second actually) note of the first bar to the last one of the second. I love it so!!! I remember now, though, that having Fingers is my favorite instrumental thing, so this is number two. And number three would be what conched said - some very cool piano/keys work. Number four the wall of guitars in the choruses of Wheel. Shall I go on?.... Okay, some extraordinary bass work everywhere, esp. the double basses on Take The Weather With You. Roger on Duke's On Sunday is impeccable. Robot and Ralph are always scintillating. I go now.

Peter's definately on there...from what Jimmy said in the RM program, he helped write some of the songs and Jimmy compliments some of his guitar work.backbeat wrote:Looking at that list of musicians' credits, I don't see Peter Mayer, only Jim. The best thing for me? It's out on Tuesday.

Jimmy said some of this before Elvis Presley Blues.backbeat wrote:Looking at that list of musicians' credits, I don't see Peter Mayer, only Jim. Do my eyes deceive me? Is there an error in the list?
I go now.

Johnny Cash had just died. Jimmy wanted to do this like the Tennessee Three.
Pete Mayer had to think Tennessee Three and he really came through.
Far cry from Gillian's arrangement, and he hopes she appreciates it.

Jimmy commented that Sonny Landreth is featured on Wheel Inside the Wheel..."the Ultimate Mardi Gras song."landofmangos wrote:

What can I say to thatbackbeat wrote: Let's see. You joined in Feb '05 and this was your first post? I say your holding something back.
I found the link for the new album credits after I posted, and you're right. Peter is not listed, but I swear I hear Peter on this one, just like I was fairly certain I was hearing Landreth. I can't wait to buy my copy on Tuesday. Actually I'll end up getting two, one for my 18 year old who is out on his own and living about 3 hours away from me. He loves parrothead gifts from mom!
Nice meeting' ya'll. BTW, I am watching VH1 and have seen 2 commercials in the last 50 minutues for TTWWY!

Wow, it sure does sound like banjo. If that's Jake on the uke I'm more impressed than ever. We also thought maybe a mandolin, but that didn't quite sound right, either.conched wrote:OK, just one more question.
SGH and Fish both thought they heard a banjo on Wheel Inside the Wheel. You with the great ears for music...whatcha think?
The credits are wrong. Peter's on there.
The best thing? There are too many to list.... I love having the harmonica in the mix again... Like backbeat said above, the guitar work is awesome!....
I guess the best thing is that TTWWY exists..... Jimmy and the CRB are still recording.

I vote banjo. And someone who knows what he's doing playing it. Glad to hear that Peter is on here, contrary to the credits list. I thought it sounded like him, but I thought it sounded like him on LTC, too, so I don't quite have a lock on his sound. It's hard to with group players who are as versatile as Peter. If he's playing this banjo part, half of me would be amazed (because he's not a banjo player) and the other half.. would be amazed, too (because this is such a stretch for a guitar player - imho - even for one with his talent).

It sounds a lot like a banjo to me, too. But it even has an unusual tone for a bango...that's a very intriguing song.
